GP - Private Billing | DPA | MM2 | Hobart TAS

GP-40
  • AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
  • Australia, Tasmania
  • Permanent

A well-established private-billing GP Super Clinic on Hobart's eastern shore is looking to welcome a UK-trained GP to its team. The practice is part of a national medical group that has recruited extensively from the UK over the last 18 months — around 99% of recent GP arrivals across the group have been UK-trained, so the operational know-how for supporting UK doctors through registration, visa, and relocation is genuinely well-established.

Location & registration status

  • Suburb: Hobart TAS (eastern shore)
  • DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
  • MMM classification: MM2

This suburb sits on Hobart's eastern shore, across the Derwent River from the Hobart CBD — around 10 minutes by car, with stunning waterfront and mountain views. The eastern shore is one of greater Hobart's most desirable areas: strong schools, established family communities, water views, beaches, and good amenities. Hobart itself is one of Australia's most genuinely underrated relocation destinations for UK GPs — a compact, walkable harbour city with world-class food, arts, and access to Tasmania's spectacular wilderness within minutes of the CBD. The climate is closer to the UK than anywhere else in Australia, and cost of living is meaningfully lower than the mainland capitals.

About the practice

The clinic is part of a national medical centre group operating 200+ practices across Australia, with deep institutional experience supporting UK-trained GPs through every stage of the transition. This site is a GP Super Clinic established in 2011 — with genuinely easy access to physiotherapy, mental health services, child health and parenting services, and drug and alcohol services. Tasmania I-Med (Regional Imaging), pathology services, and a pharmacy are all located close by.

This is a private billing practice — patients pay private fees rather than relying on bulk billing — which typically supports stronger per-consult earnings and longer, more attentive consultations. The clinic operates Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm.

Package & earnings

  • Flexible 65–70% billing split in your favour (30–35% service fee, negotiable as part of the overall package)
  • AUD $160/hr income guarantee for the first 12 weeks while you build your patient base
  • Relocation allowance AUD $20,000–$40,000 (the higher end available in exchange for a slightly higher service fee, or vice versa — genuinely negotiable)
  • Complimentary Airbnb accommodation for the first 4 weeks on arrival
  • 2–3 year contract (flexible)
  • 38-hour commitment per week
  • Private billing model — stronger per-consult earnings than bulk billing comparators

Billing model

Private billing — patients pay private fees, with the practice operating as a Super Clinic with co-located multidisciplinary care.

Visa & AHPRA support

Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials), with on-site supervision capacity available at supported centres across the group. 482 visa sponsorship supported, with a clear pathway to permanent residency after 2 years — the group's 38-hour weekly structure is specifically designed to support that PR pathway. The group has an in-house migration agent to support the visa application, and our team will handle the heavy lifting on AHPRA paperwork, timelines, and ECFMG/EPIC verification where needed.

Around 99% of recent GP arrivals across the group have been UK-trained — meaning you'd be joining an organisation that has done this many times and knows exactly what good UK-to-Australia transition looks like.

Who we're looking for

  • UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
  • Suited to both fellowed GPs and those needing ESP supervision
  • Enjoys longer, more thorough consultations — private billing patients value time and attention
  • Comfortable with a 38-hour-per-week commitment (supports PR application)
  • Open to a 2–3 year contract commitment
  • Open to relocating to Tasmania and embracing the Hobart lifestyle

Next steps

Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.

Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly. Once a GP is offered a role with the group, the position is typically reserved for up to 12 months, giving you plenty of time to manage your AHPRA, visa, and personal logistics properly.
