GP - Bulk Billing | DPA | MM1 | Brisbane Region QLD
- AUD $400,000 – $560,000 per year
- Australia, Queensland
- Permanent
AUD $330 per appointment, completed in around 10 minutes — that's the fee structure for Aboriginal Health Assessments at this Ipswich bulk-billing practice, and it's the reason the earnings profile here sits meaningfully above what most bulk-billing GP roles in Australia can offer. The practice serves a significant Aboriginal community in the Ipswich catchment, provides these assessments in a way most local competitors don't, and has a settled patient base that supports established GPs billing toward the higher end of the range. For UK-trained GPs looking at Australia and wondering whether "bulk billing" and "strong earnings" can coexist in one role, this is one of the clearer examples in the market.
Location & registration status
- Suburb: Ipswich, Brisbane Region QLD
- DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
- MMM classification: MM1
Ipswich sits around 30 minutes west of central Brisbane, with direct rail and motorway access into the city. The region is in the middle of a significant growth phase — the 2032 Brisbane Olympics is driving substantial infrastructure and population investment across South East Queensland, with Ipswich one of the major beneficiaries. Housing is dramatically more affordable than Brisbane itself or the eastern-state capitals, schools are strong, and the lifestyle suits GPs who want city access without metropolitan pricing. Brisbane's beaches (Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast) are both within easy reach, as is the Scenic Rim wine and food region.
About the practice
The clinic sits in Ipswich — a well-established, doctor-owned bulk-billing family practice with a settled team of six GPs. The practice has a genuine track record of successfully placing UK-trained doctors — several current and previous members of the clinical team came through UK training pathways and have built long-term careers with the practice.
Clinical scope is broad general practice, and the patient base includes a significant Aboriginal community — supporting the practice's specific investment in Aboriginal Health Assessments as a distinct clinical stream. These assessments are performed by GPs at the practice at approximately AUD $330 per 10-minute appointment, and represent a genuine earnings differentiator that most competing Ipswich practices don't offer. Aboriginal Health Assessments continue to be bulk billed every day.
Standard consultations are 10 minutes (15 minutes acceptable while a new GP is settling in), and the practice bulk bills Medicare card holders on weekdays. Weekend and public holiday appointments are privately billed. The clinic operates Monday to Friday 7:30am–5pm (with extended Thursday hours to 7pm), plus weekend and public holiday morning sessions (subject to doctor availability, privately billed).
Package & earnings
- 70/30 billing split in your favour (30% service fee), plus quarterly government bulk billing incentive loading
- AUD $150/hr income guarantee for the first 3 months while you build your patient base
- AUD $10,000 relocation allowance — paid upfront at the start (not retrospectively)
- Realistic earnings for an established GP: annual billings in the region of AUD $800,000 are genuinely achievable given patient demand and the AHA revenue stream, translating to approximately AUD $560,000 take-home for a full-time GP at 70/30
- Standard weekday hours Monday to Friday (8am–5pm base, extended Thursday), with an optional 1-in-5 weekend roster (not a deal-breaker)
- Full-time or part-time considered
Billing model
Bulk billing for Medicare card holders on weekdays, including all Aboriginal Health Assessments and Care Plans every day. Weekend, public holiday, and specific service categories are privately billed. Federal bulk billing incentive loading applied quarterly on top of standard billings.
Visa & AHPRA support
Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials) and 482 visa sponsorship, with a clear pathway to permanent residency. The practice has direct, current experience supporting internationally-trained doctors — UK-trained GPs have joined and settled successfully within the team previously, so the operational know-how for the transition is already in place. Our team will handle the heavy lifting on AHPRA paperwork, visa timelines, and ECFMG/EPIC verification where needed.

Next steps
Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.
Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly.
