Regional neurosciences centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria | Major trauma centre | Immediate start

A consultant post in diagnostic neuroradiology has arisen at the regional neurosciences centre serving Lancashire and South Cumbria, a population of 1.5 million. The post runs to the end of February 2027 in the first instance, and the department anticipates extending it. It is offered on a ten PA basis at Royal Preston Hospital, with an immediate start for a candidate who can be released.

The postholder will provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service in support of the nine neuroradiologists already in post, covering inpatient and outpatient MRI and CT reporting, advanced neuro-imaging, head and neck radiology and MDT presentation.

 Range of experience considered

The department is interested in radiologists whose neuro and head and neck work forms the greater part of their reporting, and who are experienced in presenting at MDT in a tertiary setting. Candidates who have developed their neuro practice within a consultant post, rather than through a formal subspecialty fellowship are encouraged to make contact so that their experience can be discussed with the neuroradiology lead ahead of any application.

Key requirements

• Essential
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• MBBS or equivalent, and FRCR or equivalent
• Fellowship in diagnostic neuroradiology from an accredited training scheme
• Wide experience of diagnostic neuroradiology and MDT work in a tertiary neurosciences centre, including presenting at neuroradiology MDT
• Recent experience of on-call working
• Resident within forty-five minutes' travel of Preston or Chorley

Desirable

• Experience of advanced neuro-imaging techniques
• Ability to perform ultrasound and guided intervention, neck ultrasound in particular
• Teaching skills across medical and paramedical disciplines

• Four multislice CT scanners, a modern bi-planar neuro-interventional suite and a new-build hybrid suite
• Trust-wide SECTRA PACS, PET-CT on site through a partnership with Alliance Medical, and a rolling programme of equipment replacement

 The job plan

• Ten programmed activities, indicative and subject to discussion: neuro reporting across the week, MDT cover on Monday mornings, a neck ultrasound list on Monday afternoons and general radiology sessions mid-week
• No on-call supplement attached to the post, the trust accepting teleradiology as the primary means of out-of-hours provision
• Other subspecialist interests actively encouraged, with substantial scope for their maintenance or development
