GP - Mixed Billing | DPA | MM1 | Newcastle NSW

GP-22
  • AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
  • Australia, New South Wales
  • Permanent

A family-owned mixed-billing practice in Newcastle's western suburbs is looking to welcome up to three UK-trained GPs over the next three years — with the immediate focus on bringing in the next GP to meet current patient demand. The practice is fully booked across its current team and actively turning patients away, so this is a genuine "busy from day one" role with a ready-made patient base, located just minutes from John Hunter Hospital.

Location & registration status

  • Suburb: Newcastle NSW
  • DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
  • MMM classification: MM1

This is an established suburb in Newcastle's western corridor, around 10km from central Newcastle and just over 2 hours north of Sydney. The clinic sits minutes from John Hunter Hospital, the region's major tertiary referral centre — so referrals, continuity with hospital teams, and access to specialist services are genuinely convenient.

Newcastle itself is one of Australia's more underrated relocation destinations for UK GPs — a genuine coastal city with world-class beaches, a working harbour, excellent schools, a growing food and arts scene, and property prices meaningfully lower than Sydney. You get city amenities without metropolitan pricing, the Hunter Valley wine region 45 minutes inland, and Sydney close enough for city weekends without the cost of living there.

About the practice

The clinic is independently owned and run by two GPs (husband and wife, both Australian-trained), with a third GP currently on the team. The practice has six consulting rooms and is actively under-utilised — all three current GPs are fully booked and turning patients away, meaning an incoming GP will have a ready-made patient base from day one rather than building from scratch. The practice plans to grow from three to four GPs in the immediate term (ahead of 2027), with capacity to take one additional GP each year for the next three years.

The clinical scope is genuinely broad: general consultations, skin cancer medicine, minor procedures, women's health, men's health, children's health, antenatal care, chronic disease management, and travel medicine. The practice has on-site pathology (Monday–Friday mornings) and uses modern clinical tools including AI Scribe technology to reduce administrative burden during consultations. While no sub-specialty is required, one of the owner-GPs holds diplomas in women's and children's health and can support interest in these areas.

Package & earnings

  • Service fee starts at 35% during supervision, reducing over time
  • Established GPs move to 29% (part-time) or 28% (full-time, 8 sessions) once supervision is complete
  • AUD $150/hr income guarantee for the first 3 months while you build your patient base (expected to be brief given existing demand)
  • Relocation allowance to be confirmed — dependent on the candidate
  • Full-time or part-time considered

Billing model

Mixed billing — a blend of private fees and bulk billing across the patient base.

Visa & AHPRA support

Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials) and 482 visa sponsorship, with a clear PR pathway. On-site supervision is available for ESP candidates, provided directly by the practice owners who are both experienced Australian-trained GPs. This is the practice's first international recruitment, so our team will be handling the heavy lifting on AHPRA paperwork, visa timelines, and ECFMG/EPIC verification — with the practice fully engaged on the clinical supervision side.

Who we're looking for

  • UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
  • Suited to both fellowed GPs and those needing ESP supervision
  • Comfortable joining a small, family-run independent practice rather than a corporate group
  • Long-term mindset — the practice plans sustained growth over 3 years and would welcome GPs who want to grow with them
  • Open to relocating to Newcastle and embracing coastal NSW living

Next steps

Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.

Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly.
