Locum Consultant Radiologist – Chest, Uro-radiology or Oncology Imaging

Three subspecialty interests are in scope: chest imaging, uro-radiology and oncology imaging. Each of them carries a significant component of general reporting and MDT cover, so the work is not purely subspecialist. The department is not considering other subspecialties for this post.

 Full FRCR and NHS experience are required. Specialist registration is preferred but not essential for a locum appointment, so radiologists working towards CCT or CESR are welcome to apply.

The department

The radiology department is well equipped and covers a wide range of work. Equipment includes two 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners, three CT scanners, a dedicated interventional suite, nineteen ultrasound machines and two SPECT CT gamma cameras, with a recently opened radiopharmacy on site.

There is full PACS and RIS desktop integration within consultant offices, PACS stations throughout the hospital, and an allocated home workstation for every consultant radiologist with full remote access to trust IT systems.

The department has a well-established skill mix, with radiographers undertaking plain film and ultrasound reporting and a training programme underway to extend this to limited cross-sectional reporting. The trust's Community Diagnostic Centre provides CT scanning and respiratory services, with plans to expand into community MRI.

Person specification

Essential

• Full FRCR
• Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC
• Subspecialist training and experience in chest imaging, uro-radiology or oncology imaging
• Experience of working within the NHS
• Willingness and ability to contribute to general reporting and to MDT cover alongside the subspecialty work

 Desirable

• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
• CCT or CESR, which is ideal but not essential for a locum appointment
• Experience of NHS on-call working

Radiologists working towards CCT or CESR

A locum consultant post of this length is a practical step for an experienced radiologist holding the FRCR who is still working towards specialist registration. It gives consultant-level responsibility, NHS evidence for the portfolio, and time to complete the application.

The area

The hospital sits a short distance from a South Yorkshire town centre, with Sheffield around twenty minutes away, the M1 and M18 close by and rail links to Sheffield, Doncaster and Leeds. The eastern edge of the Peak District is within comfortable reach, and housing costs across South Yorkshire remain well below the national average, which makes the area a straightforward place to relocate a family.
