Consultant Radiologist – Head and Neck Radiology

NHS trust in the North of England | Two acute hospital sites | Relocation support of up to £8,000

Overview

A substantive consultant radiologist post with a subspecialty interest in head and neck imaging is available with an integrated NHS foundation trust in the North of England. The appointee will be based at either of the trust's two acute hospitals and will join an established team of diagnostic and interventional consultant radiologists.

The post has been created through investment in the radiology department to meet the continuing growth in demand for diagnostic imaging. The directorate welcomes applications from established consultants and from those newly appointed to the Specialist Register.

The department

The trust provides acute and community services to a large and largely rural population, with a strong emphasis on clinical leadership. Clinicians play a central part in the management of the organisation, and consultants are encouraged to contribute to the development of the service.

The radiology directorate covers both acute sites. Consultants work across the two hospitals on a rotational basis, currently one weekday in seven at the smaller site. On-call work is managed from the main site and covers reporting for both hospitals.

Remote access to trust IT systems is provided, and home working may be possible by agreement with the Clinical Director.

The post

The appointee will share with consultant colleagues in providing a comprehensive, efficient clinical radiology service to the trust and its referrers, bringing subspecialty expertise in head and neck imaging alongside a contribution to the general diagnostic workload.

The post holder will take an equal share of out-of-hours work and the on-call rota, currently 1 in 13 and expected to reduce as further appointments are made. The role includes the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff, participation in audit and clinical governance, and work within multidisciplinary teams.

Person specification

Essential

FRCR or equivalent
Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology
A high standard of clinical skill in radiology, with the ability to give an expert opinion across emergency, inpatient and elective work
The ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
Participation in on-call and emergency cover
Experience of, and commitment to, teaching and medical audit

Desirable

Subspecialty training or a fellowship in head and neck imaging
A higher degree
Leadership and training experience
Publications in peer-reviewed journals
