GP - Bulk Billing | DPA | MM2 | Woodrising, Newcastle NSW
- AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
- Australia, New South Wales
- Permanent
UK GPs evaluating Newcastle as a relocation destination have a specific window of opportunity here: a settled bulk-billing practice with an outgoing GP creating a clean replacement vacancy in around four months time, ESP supervision capacity confirmed on-site, and a clinical scope broad enough to keep the work varied without the volume pressure of larger metropolitan group practices.
Location & registration status
- Suburb: Newcastle NSW
- DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
- MMM classification: MM2
This suburb sits west of central Newcastle in the city's lake corridor, around 30 minutes from the Newcastle CBD and within easy reach of Lake Macquarie's beaches, parks, and waterfront communities. Newcastle itself is one of Australia's more genuinely underrated relocation destinations for UK GPs — a coastal city with world-class beaches, a working harbour, strong schools, a growing food and arts scene, and property prices substantially lower than Sydney. The Hunter Valley wine region is 45 minutes inland, Sydney is around 2 hours south for occasional city access, and the Lake Macquarie lifestyle adds a distinctly different flavour to standard coastal Australia — calmer waters, sailing and watersports, and waterfront living without the tourist-density of beach suburbs.
About the practice
This is a doctor-led general practice serving the community, with a clear focus on personalised, relationship-based primary care. The clinical scope is genuinely broad: family medicine, women's and men's health, chronic disease management, vaccinations, maternity care, skin treatment, and medical acupuncture among other services. The team is supported by two on-site nurses and on-site pathology, with visiting allied health colleagues (podiatry and dietetics) providing wraparound multidisciplinary care.
Patient pace sits at around 5–6 patients per hour — a manageable rhythm that allows for proper continuity of care without the throughput pressure of larger metropolitan practices. The practice operates Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with no weekend obligation.
The vacancy is straightforward: an existing GP is leaving in approximately four months, creating a genuine replacement opportunity rather than speculative growth recruitment. The departing GP's patient base will transfer to the incoming GP, meaning a clinical workload from day one rather than building from scratch.
Package & earnings
- 60–70% billing split in your favour
- Bulk billing with quarterly bulk billing incentive loading applied
- Private billing on procedures (alongside standard bulk-billed consultations)
- Hourly Income guarantee to be confirmed per candidate — likely to be in place during the initial settling period
- Relocation allowance to be confirmed per candidate
- Full-time or part-time considered
Billing model
Predominantly bulk billing with quarterly incentive loading, plus private billing on procedures. The practice accesses federal bulk billing incentive structures on top of standard Medicare billings.
Visa & AHPRA support
Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials), with on-site supervision capacity confirmed for ESP candidates. The practice has experience supporting internationally-trained doctors and is comfortable with the ESP supervision structure — this would be the practice's first specifically UK-sourced placement, so our team will be handling the heavy lifting on AHPRA paperwork, ESP timelines, visa, and ECFMG/EPIC verification, working alongside a practice that has the clinical infrastructure to support the supervision side.
482 visa sponsorship is available, with a clear pathway to permanent residency after the initial contract period.
Who we're looking for
- UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
- Suited to both fellowed GPs and ESP candidates needing on-site supervision
- Interest in broad-scope general practice with genuine continuity of care
- Comfortable with a 5–6 patient per hour bulk billing rhythm
- Open to relocating to Newcastle and embracing the Lake Macquarie / coastal NSW lifestyle
Next steps
Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.
Given the existing GP transitions out in approximately four months, early conversations are particularly valuable here — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly, and candidates who start the pathway now have the best chance of aligning with the practice's preferred start window.
