An exciting opportunity has come up in the northeast of England, for an ambitious doctor looking for an Acute Medicine Consultant role. The is an expanding team so is a new post, rather than a replacement. The Trust, and the acute medicine department specifically, are supportive and are interested in working with individuals through the CESR process.

Main Duties: 

  • As an Acute Medicine Consultant, you will be providing cover for medical admissions on the Acute Assessment Unit and managing patients in the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit.
  • It is a 10 PA job plan, with the opportunity for sub-specialty interest to be built into this.
  • There is an expectation to participate in the weekend on-call rota, which presently runs at 1:7.
  • As a senior member of the team, you have responsibility to help junior staff with seriously unwell patients.
  • Contributing to quality improvement, audits and clinical governance.

The Hospital:

The hospital has around 400 beds and cover a wide range of inpatient services. The Acute Medical Unit is crucial in delivering high-quality emergency care to medical patients coming into the hospital. The acute team work closely with other medical subs-specialties when treating complex cases, as well as with diagnostic teams such as Radiology. The Trust are well-experienced in helping doctors through the CESR pathway so are welcoming people through this process. They are constantly striving for improvement and are aiming for a completely electronic record system by the end of next year.

The hospital is based in a town in the north east of England. It’s been voted as one of the best places to live in the UK. It has excellent quality of schooling, with many ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ rated schools in the area. There are also great transport links to some of the major cities in the region. Further, there is good access to some of the most beautiful countryside in England, so it’s easy to get out and explore when you’re not at work. This creates an excellent work-life balance.  

Requirements:

  • Full MRCP or equivalent  
  • OET / IELTS
