This position is one of the best university hospitals known. As a Trust Registrar in Acute General Medicine you will be working in an exciting multidisciplinary team. Your job plan will include time in the Acute Medical Unit, the Short Stay Unit, the Ambulatory Care Unit and treating Acute medical cases in the Emergency Department and seeing Geriatric patients on Medical wards.

Clinical leadership is an important factor for this position, supervising junior doctors, making high level clinical decisions, and reporting to the Consultant team. You will:

  • take patient histories, make detailed notes, order tests and laboratory reports, make diagnoses.
  • manage acute patients across the breadth of Medicine, including elderly patients
  • be a senior member of the code blue / resuscitation team
  • communicate effectively with patients, family member and colleagues

The Job

You’ll be treating a wide range of Acute Medical and Elderly general medicine cases in an exciting, busy centre. The work is split between the Acute Medical Unit, the Short Stay Unit and the Ambulatory Care Unit, and treating Acute medical cases in the Emergency Department. As it is in a large hospital you will be working in a multidisciplinary team and liaising regularly with other specialties within the Trust to provide high quality patient care.

You will not be on a full oncall rota but there will be planned twilight sessions in the medical decision unit. You will be allocated both a clinical and an educational supervisor to assist with your continuous professional development.

The job itself will be consist of:

  • Treating patients with Acute Medical emergencies admitted to the hospital.
  • Be a clinical leader in Acute Medical cases in the hospital.
  • Liaise with the Consultant team to plan patient care.
  • Training junior medical staff.
  • Teaching postgraduate and undergraduate students.
  • Protected teaching time.
  • Job plan designed to allow time for CPD, e.g. audits or research etc.

You will get a supernumerary period when you arrive during which you won’t be working independently out of hours, to ensure you’re comfortable practicing first.  

The Requirements

In order to apply for this role you will need:

  • Full MRCP
  • IELTS or OET if you are coming from overseas
  • GMC Registration
  • Experience in a similar role whether in the NHS or elsewhere
