Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics and Neonatology

BDI Resourcing are working with a fantastic Paediatric department in the east midlands to find a Specialty Doctor in General Paediatrics with level 2 Neonatology. The Hospital itself is medium sized, with over 400 beds. The Paediatric department is very busy, receiving around 2500 acute medical Paediatric admissions per year, and a similar number of surgical admissions.

The delivery rate in the level 2 Neonatal Unit is over 2000 per year and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including 2 Intensive Care Cots, 2 High Dependency Cots, 6 Special Care Cots and 4 Transitional Care Cots. 

The team of Consultants is incredibly supportive and always encourage the development of individuals through the different stages of their chosen specialty.

Main Duties: 

  • Provide strong leadership to junior doctors, nurse practitioners and medical students.
  • To conduct clinical practice across Paediatric and Neonatal duties to a high standard.
  • Participate in consultant led ward rounds.
  • Occasionally lead ward rounds.
  • Attend clinics to ensure the continuity of high standard of care and clinical practice.
  • Take on administrative duties to add to the efficient running of the service.
  • Participate in audit and research programmes that are conducted in the department.
  • Partake in extra duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Take part in a 1 in 8 middle grade rota.
  • Participate in the teaching of nurse practitioners, junior doctors, nursing staff and medical students in the surrounding medical schools.

The Hospital:

The Hospital is a well-equipped District General with A&E, Maternity and Obstetrics, Acute Medicine and Acute Surgery (including Orthopaedics) and Adult and Neonatal Intensive care. The support facilities are equally impressive, boasting high end equipment, extensively covering the related services.

  • Being a popular location for IMGs, the surrounding location is incredibly diverse and multicultural.

  • The area is well connected via motorway or train to major cities in the UK. There are also excellent transport links to a large international airport, so travelling to see friends and family is very easy.

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • MRCPCH
  • Full GMC registration with license to practice.
  • Registrar experience in General Paediatrics and Neonatology.
  • At least 4 years of post-graduate training, of which 2 years must be in Paediatrics.
  • Life support courses, e.g. APLS, NLS, etc.
  • Safeguarding level 3.
  • Experience performing practical skills such as Intubation, UAC, UVC, Long lines.
  • Experience engaging in Clinical Governance, e.g. reporting errors and learning from errors.
  • Experience in Audit participation.
  • Teaching experience.
  • A desire for ongoing learning and personal development.
