BDI Resourcing are hiring into an exciting Specialty Doctor role covering both Paediatrics and Neonatology at a level 1 centre in the northeast of England. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic Paediatrics team with an excellent track record of supporting doctors in both their first jobs in the NHS, or in a second or third job where a doctor is looking to further their career through supportive continuous professional development. 

Main Duties: 

  • Paediatrics Specialty Doctors at this hospital work on the Special Care Baby Unit, the General Paediatrics Wards, Acute / Emergency admissions. These will be per the rota, seeing you spending dedicated time on each of these units depending which shift you’re working that day.
  • Specialty Doctors are expecting to support and teaching Paediatric junior doctors and ST3s, as well as nurses and AHPs in the team.
  • The postholder will be expected to work a full on call rota, which currently runs to a 1:8 average averaging 44 hours per week. Specialty Doctors are the second on-call in the department for emergencies, forming part of the code blue team for resuscitation of both neonates and children.  
  • Experienced candidates can be involved in outpatient clinics, supervised by a Consultant.
  • The post holder will be teaching medical students as well as junior doctors. Participation in audits, quality improvement projects, and presentations are all encouraged. Trust doctors also have access to study leave and study budget for professional development.

The Hospital:

The trust manages two main acute sites which have a combined inpatient bed capacity of almost 1000 beds. Wide range of inpatient services. Level 1 Neonatology, Special Care Baby Unit. The Paediatrics department comprises of a level 1 Neonatology Special Care Baby Unit, General Paediatrics wards, Paediatric assessment unit, Paediatrics outpatient clinics. There is also a Paediatrician posted to the emergency department to deal with inpatient cases coming in through the front door.

The Paediatrics team work closely with a wide range of teams in the hospital, including the Emergency Department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Radiology etc. There are also close links with colleagues in the community, including Community Paediatricians, GPs, social services etc.

The location:

The hospital is based in a town in the northeast of England. It is a peaceful family friendly area with beautiful countryside on your doorstep. Some of the major cities in the north east of England are only a short drive away so it is the best of both worlds. There is an excellent level of education and schooling in the region, with some of the best rated universities in the country located nearby. Being situated in the north east of England means the cost of living is much lower than elsewhere in England, so you have greater spending power with your take-home salary.

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • GMC registration 
  • Experience intubating neonates
  • Experience resuscitating both neonates and children
  • Work at a middle grade level in Paediatrics overseas / or NHS experience at a junior level and looking to step up.
