Role and Responsibilities
This position has been created to support and strengthen the neuro-ophthalmology service. The post is designed to expand the fellow’s clinical expertise across the spectrum of neuro-ophthalmic conditions, including disorders of both afferent and efferent pathways. There is a strong emphasis on neuroradiology, with regular exposure to imaging-led discussions and inpatient liaison with the neurology team.

There are no regular out-of-hours or on-call commitments. Timetables rotate midway through the post to ensure a broad range of experience.
In addition to clinical work, the successful applicant will engage in:
- Multidisciplinary meetings, particularly in neuroradiology
- Clinical governance activities
- Research and audit projects (with support from senior clinicians)
- Departmental teaching and educational initiatives
The role is well supported with full-time administrative assistance and access to funded study leave, subject to local policies.
The Hospital
This position is based at a large teaching hospital that delivers tertiary care across a wide regional catchment. The ophthalmology department is well resourced, with modern outpatient and diagnostic facilities, and is home to a comprehensive range of sub-specialist services. - Optical coherence tomography (OCT)
- Heidelberg retinal tomography
- Corneal topography
- Fundus fluorescein and ICG angiography
- Ocular ultrasound
- On-site pre-operative assessments and biometrics
The neuro-ophthalmology service is fully integrated with the Trust’s neurosciences division, which includes inpatient neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology. This strong interdisciplinary setup ensures a highly collaborative and academically enriching environment.
