Job Title – Consultant in Urology
Salary Range – £109,725 - £145,478
Location – South East England
Duration – Permanent (Substantive)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Urologist to join a dynamic and highly experienced Urology department within one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK. This position is ideal for someone with strong general urology experience and a complementary subspecialty interest such as endourology, stone surgery, BPH, bladder cancer, or paediatric urology. The post supports both elective and emergency care pathways and offers outstanding development opportunities including teaching, research, and leadership roles.

Main Duties:

  • Wards and settings: Consultant-led care across inpatient, outpatient, and day case settings. The successful candidate will work across multiple hospital sites within the trust.
  • Patient group: Adults requiring a wide spectrum of urological care, with the opportunity to develop sub-specialty clinics and treatments in areas like BPH, endoscopic stone surgery, and bladder cancer.
  • Team structure: You will join a well-established department with over 20 consultants, specialist registrars, specialty doctors, clinical nurse specialists, PAs, and dedicated administrative support.
  • On-call rota: 1:11 consultant rota with full middle-grade cover and a "consultant of the week" system where elective work is paused to focus on emergency urology.
  • Non-clinical work: 1.5 PAs are allocated for Supporting Professional Activities including audit, CPD, research, job planning, and medical education. Additional SPA time may be available for leadership and educational roles.

The Hospital:
The trust includes three main hospital sites with an integrated urology service under one management structure. It is a centre for advanced urological surgery, including robotic and laparoscopic procedures, and provides comprehensive cancer, stone, and functional urology care. Facilities include two Da Vinci robotic systems, multiple urology theatres, haematuria clinics, and diagnostic suites with local anaesthetic transperineal biopsy services. There are strong academic links with local medical schools and support for teaching and research.

The Location:
Situated in the South East of England, the region offers a balance of city access and countryside living. With excellent grammar schools, strong transport links to London and nearby airports, and proximity to coastal and rural areas, it is a desirable place to live and work. The cost of living is reasonable compared to nearby major cities, and the area is ideal for families and professionals alike, offering great schooling, leisure facilities, and cultural attractions.

Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need:

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Urology (or within 6 months of CCT/CESR at interview date)
  • Experience in general urology and confidence to manage independently
  • Desirable: Subspecialty interest in bladder cancer and/or paediatrics
  • Strong interest or experience in audit, teaching, and research
