The Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at a leading hospital in London is seeking to recruit two motivated, ambitious doctors to join their team. 

The SDEC department here pride themselves on delivering high quality care to approximately 40-60 patients each day. They’re looking for doctors who are passionate about providing the best possible care to patients, avoiding admission, and maximising the use of investigations, consultations and collaboration between specialties. The successful applicant will be expected to make use of excellent communication skills. 

It is hoped that this support and clinical exposure will enable candidates to successfully apply for a Deanery training post or prepare for a CESR programme for equivalence of training.

Main Duties: 

  • The role will involve taking a lead in the assessment and treatment of patients allocated to Same Day Emergency Care service. These patients are streamed primarily from the Emergency Department, our Urgent Treatment Centres, Acute Medicine or via GP referrals.
  • You will be expected be available to work both weekends and weekdays. No night shifts are involved.
  • There is an expectation that you will perform duties in occasional emergencies at the request of the appropriate consultant.
  • You’ll benefit from clinical Consultant support and mentorship to aide your career progression where necessary.
  • You’ll be encouraged to participate fully in continuing professional development to ensure clinical skills are up-to-date.
  • You will have the opportunity to get involved with research and any audits involving either the acute medicine or emergency medicine departments.

The Hospital:

You’ll be based at the Trust’s 500-bedded hospital in central London. The hospital has an exceptionally long, proud history, it has taken a leading role in groundbreaking research for over a century. The department is staffed by a lovely team; doctors and nurses come from a variety of backgrounds here and you’ll be warmly welcomed. There are excellent research/funding opportunities available throughout the Trust for doctors employed here. You can also make use of the full range of library facilities both at the hospital and at its partnered medical college.

London is the most popular city to live in the UK, with an estimated population of 9 million people. It is an incredibly diverse, welcoming city to live in with lots of things to do. The city has a very high-quality infrastructure system as well so you can either live more centrally or you can live in the suburbs and commute in easily on the train.  Benefits to living in London include. Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • GMC registration complete or in process 
  • At least four years of experience within internal medicine or emergency medicine post-internship 

The following are preferred but not essential: 

  • MRCP 
  • UK experience working within acute medicine or emergency medicine
