BDI Resourcing are hiring for a Consultant in Paediatrics to work in a district general hospital covering General Paediatrics and Level 1 SCBU Neonatology. You’ll be working in the midlands in a diverse and multicultural area with a Trust that are renowned for IMG recruitment. In order to apply you’ll need experience working in a senior Consultant or Specialist role, feeling comfortable practicing independently.

The Hospital, Department and Trust

Serving a population of more than 300,000 inhabitants and with over 300 beds, this hospital Trust is smaller in size but larger in support than you’ll find elsewhere.

There is no Paediatric inpatient ward with ambulances conveying directly to the local tertiary hospital. There is an ambulatory service via a dedicated Children’s Assessment Unit with pathways for ED care, urgent care and Paediatric care streamed on arrival at triage. Development of a Short Stay Assessment Unit for specific conditions is being actively explored as the next phase of service development.

Transfer for inpatient Paediatric care is a well-developed pathway. Children arriving through the walk-in service occasionally become critically ill, the resuscitation team at liaises with the PICU retrieval team in these circumstances and a bespoke plan is made for transfer. A shared transfer policy for Paediatrics, ED and anesthetics is in place for these circumstances.

There is a SCBU caring for babies from 32/40 gestation up to term and receiving babies for step-down care from partner hospitals. Within the maternity department there are approximately 2,200 births a year and 300 admissions to SCBU which has 8 cots. Babies who require LNU or NICU care are transferred either in- 3 utero or after delivery. The regional Neonatal Transport Service conveys these babies
