We are working with a leading NHS Trust on the South Coast of England seeking a Locum Consultant Haematologist to support their expanding Laboratory Haematology, Myeloid Disorders, and Myeloma services. This is a 12-month post ideally suited to a consultant looking to engage with dynamic clinical and laboratory services in a major teaching hospital.

Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will join a comprehensive team of consultant haematologists and contribute to both inpatient and outpatient services with a specialist focus on laboratory haematology, myeloma, and myeloid disorders. The position involves a full-time commitment of 10 programmed activities (PAs), including 1 in 7 non-resident on-call duties for combined and general haematology. Applications for part-time or job-share arrangements are welcomed.

Key duties include:

  • Management of patients with myeloma and myeloid disorders in outpatient and day case settings

  • Clinical governance activities, audits, and continuing professional development (CPD) in line with Royal College requirements

The weekly timetable includes dedicated time for outpatient clinics, laboratory responsibilities, MDT meetings, clinical admin, and supporting professional activities (SPA) such as teaching and departmental meetings.

The Hospital

The role is based at a major university teaching hospital and regional specialist centre providing comprehensive cancer care. The Haematology Department is part of an integrated Cancer Care Group, offering both inpatient and outpatient services, and houses a well-equipped laboratory service accredited for SI-HMDS.

The hospital is a tertiary referral centre for haematology and oncology services and supports a strong clinical research programme, with access to a wide range of clinical trials. The facilities include modern laboratory diagnostics, a dedicated haematology unit and advanced imaging and pathology support. There is a strong culture of collaboration across clinical teams and a commitment to continuous improvement in patient care.

The Location

Situated on the vibrant South Coast of England, the area offers a unique combination of city amenities, coastal living and easy access to beautiful countryside. The city is a hub for education and healthcare, hosting a major university and several research institutions.

With a population of over 250,000, the location is well-connected by rail and road, offering excellent schools, diverse cultural activities and a growing food and arts scene.
