This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work within one of the leading NHS Heart Centres as a fixed-term Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia. The post has been created for an experienced and proactive Anaesthetist who is looking to pursue a sub-specialist career in Cardiothoracic Surgery. You will be serving local and regional patients and providing anaesthetic care for cutting edge and complex cases including Aortovascular work, mitral clips, TAVI and minimal invasive cardiac bypass surgeries.

You will be joining a welcoming team of 11 established Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists, working within the integrated cardiology services at the Trust. As well as your clinical duties you will also be expected to encourage service growth through teaching, research and audit activities.  

The job itself would be very well suited to any doctor who has completed an advanced fellowship or training program in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia (either in the UK or overseas).

The Trust’s surgical directorate boasts 25 active operating theatres which provide a variety of subspecialty services – Cardiothoracic Surgery being just one of these. The integrated Heart Centre is currently rated as one of the top units for the delivery of Cardiac and Thoracic Care in England, offering a range of highly specialised services.

Main Duties

  • The job rota will initially be based on a 10 PA contract (an average of 40 hours per week)
  • Preoperative evaluation and postoperative care on the ward as well as within the cardiac intensive care unit
  • Theatre sessions as per the job plan, which will be agreed with the clinicians prior to starting in post
  • Active participation in teaching junior staffing, cardiothoracic fellows, subspecialty nurses and MDT staff
  • Participation in the on-call rota for cardiac services
  • Participation in both professional audit and continuing professional development activities

  • You will be able to participate in personal objective setting and review, including the creation of a personal development plan and the Trust’s appraisal process alongside your educational supervisor
  • You will also have the opportunity to present findings and research at national and international cardiothoracic meetings

Requirements

In order to apply for this role you will need:

  • Full GMC Registration (or have been invited to your ID check in the UK)
  • A recognised post graduate qualification (e.g. EDAIC, EDIC, MRCP, FRCA, USMLE)
  • Great English language skills (evidenced via an OET or IELTS exam)
  • Experience in a similar position either overseas or domestically (Specialty Doctor/Specialist/Senior Resident)
  • Experience working as a Fellow or an Advanced Trainee in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia
  • Independent TOE skills
