This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to join one of the most reputable Hospitals in the North west of England, as a Locum Consultant in Anaesthetics. It's not just an outstanding post in which to accelerate your clinical, leadership, research & audit skills, it's your chance to join their friendly anaesthesia team and be at the heart of the enormous transformation of the primary base for the Trust.

They’re creating a state-of-the-art health campus. Based on a radical re-design & investment, with 70% of the estate being rebuilt, the hospital will sit at the heart of a site comprising a series of hubs. These will include wellbeing, healthy neighbourhood, residential community, mental health, sustainable transport & more. Your Consultancy role will be clinically vital but you'll be a high-profile expert in an organisation with a more far-reaching impact - boosting the life expectancy of local people & acting as a catalyst programme for the city's future prosperity.

In medical terms, you'll be part of the Elective Recovery Programme working across different specialties & across different MFT sites in order to develop sub-specialisation.

You could be an experienced Anaesthetic Consultant already or completing your CESR. Whatever your current status, the impact you make here will be felt immediately and carry a legacy that will echo into the future.

The Department

As part of a 210-strong cohort of Anaesthetic Consultants Trust-wide, you'll be working in an exceptional, integrated health and social care system, delivering safe, high-quality care to the public. Here are the key clinical details of the role:

  • You'll deliver expertise in complex airway and obstetric Anaesthesia.
  • You'll work flexible and fixed sessions, including on-call, typically across a 10 PA job plan to enable you to gain broad exposure to the services we provide, while becoming part of the Anaesthesia Consultant body.
  • You'll have 0.5 PAs to be involved in transformation projects.
  • You'll be on-call on a 1:9 basis, alternating between first and second on-call roles.
  • There are excellent opportunities for teaching. The unit is approved for training by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine for CM trainees and by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for Anaesthetic trainees undertaking intensive care modules.

Teaching

The Trust has a commitment to the teaching of both undergraduates and postgraduate trainees.   The successful applicant would be expected to participate in both informal and formal teaching programmes for all levels of junior medical, nursing and paramedical staff where appropriate. The Directorate offers trainees weekly tutorial session given by the Consultants and the Specialist Registrars. The teaching programme is organised by the College Tutor. There is a very active Postgraduate Centre in the Education, Research and Teaching Centre (ERC), which also contains two lecture theatres, seminar rooms, a large library and computer rooms, laboratories and offices.

Clinical Governance & Audit

The Directorate of Anaesthesia hold regular clinical governance, management and quality audit meetings in which the appointee is expected to participate. These meetings are Consultant led, with two designated lead clinicians and a part share in a full time audit facilitator. Four full day audit sessions take place per annum. During these sessions, a variety of anaesthesia and intensive care related audits are presented. There are also multidisciplinary audits. Trainees are encouraged to participate in data acquisition and presentation. Trainee hours and consultant supervision are audited on a monthly basis. Attendance at the audit meetings is required.

Requirements

In order to apply for this role, you will need:

  • GMC Registration complete (or awaiting ID check)
  • Recognized post graduate degree (EDAIC, EDIC, MRCP, FRCA, USMLE)
  • Language test (OET or IELTS)
  • ECFMG verification
  • Experience in a similar position overseas or locally (Consultant/Locum Consultant)
  • Preferably having experience in the NHS at middle grade/consultant level
