This award-winning Trust have created a new consultant post to increase the provision of Gastroenterology services to make up a total of eight full-time serving consultants. You will be expected to help the team continue to deliver world-class care which covers Gastroenterology in-patients, out-patient clinics, endoscopy services and the GI bleed on-call. As a senior member of the team you will also be expected to act as a leader for department which will include training and supervising more junior members of staff. The team here are lovely to work with and are happy to offer CESR support to the right candidate now that their most recent CESR appointee has reached specialist registration. 

Main Duties: 

  • You will be working a 10 PA post (40 hours). The job plan is divided as follows: 8 PAs in DCC (direct clinical contact) including outpatient clinics and endoscopy; and 2 PAs for SPA including audits, research and development of a sub-specialty of your choosing.
  • Provide inpatient cover for gastroenterology patients coming through the front door.
  • Run out-patient clinics for patients requiring long-term care.
  • Participate in the GI bleed consultant on call (currently a 1:8).
  • Work in the MDTs for radiology, hepatobiliary and upper GI cancers.
  • Supervise and manage more junior members of the clinical staff and contribute to teaching and learning of both postgraduate and undergraduate students.
  • Act as an effective team leader given you will be operating as one of the most senior doctors within department.

The Hospital:

The hospital is a large teaching hospital based in the north west of England. With the Trust employing over 5,000 staff, serving a population of about 800,000 people. The hospital is a wonderful place to work at with many doctors currently being helped through their CESR.

The endoscopy unit has recently been redeveloped to increase capacity, so comes with modern facilities and state-of-the-art technology.

The Trust has a partnership with several leading universities in the area so there are plenty of learning and teaching opportunities for doctors working here.

The location:

You will be based in a town in the north west of England, which is one of the most cosmopolitan regions of the UK. Here locals benefit from a lower cost of living and easy access to major cities like Manchester and Liverpool. There are more than twenty state-funded schools rated ‘Outstanding’ within a five-mile radius of the hospital.

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • GMC registration complete or in process
  • MRCP (UK)

The below are preferred but not required: 

  • Previous consultant experience 
  • SCE Gastroenterology
