This highly-rated Trust are looking for an Acute Medicine Consultant to join their esteemed team. The successful candidate should have extensive experience within Medicine and have a significant interest in working in acute medicine specifically. You will be expected to provide clinical leadership and play an essential role in the delivery of outstanding patient care at the hospital. The post will support the weekday running of the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and enable a senior acute physician weekday presence within the emergency department (ED). Acute Medicine will form the main part of your clinical activity however, sub-specialty interests are also supported. 

Main Duties: 

This is a full-time Consultant role with a 10 PA (40 hours) work plan.

You will be active in leading ward rounds independently and managing Senior Clinical Fellows, Junior Clinical Fellows, Foundation level doctors, nurses and a range of AHPs.

You will also participate in the Acute Medicine Consultant on call rota.

You will take an active role in the education and training of medical students, doctors and professions allied to medicine including those in primary care.

There is an expectation that you will work together with colleagues in primary care and the community to ensure effective management of acutely ill patients.

The Hospital:

The hospital is a recently redeveloped 500-bedded hospital in the south east of England. Due to recent refurbishments, the hospital is equipped with cutting-edge facilities giving you access to the best tools to provide exceptional patient care. The hospital has a good record of helping doctor get specialist registered through CESR so a good option for those who need support to become substantive consultants. 

The location:

You’ll be based in a town in the South East of England, just outside of London. Here you have the luxury of being able to live in a peaceful, family-friendly area with a slightly lower cost of living compared to the city. Trains to central London are under an hour. Heathrow and Gatwick are both easily accessible for international travel.

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • GMC registration complete or in process. 
  • Full MRCP (UK) 
  • Current/previous experience of working independently within Medicine
  • Current/previous management experience 
  • A strong interest in Acute Medicine specifically 

Desirable, but not essential 

  • Specialist registration 
  • SCE in Acute Medicine
