 We are delighted to invite applications for an RCOG-accredited Subspecialty Trainee in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. This is a highly specialised opportunity ideal for enthusiastic and motivated senior trainees aiming to become Maternal and Fetal Medicine subspecialists. The successful candidate will join a supportive, multidisciplinary team in a state-of-the-art teaching hospital, with exposure to complex obstetric and fetal medicine cases, supported by strong educational and research infrastructure.

Main Duties:
• Wards and Clinical Areas: You will work predominantly in the maternity unit at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, which includes 50 obstetric beds, 22 gynaecology beds, and 22 special care cots.
• Patient Types: Expect to manage high-risk obstetric patients and a wide range of maternal and fetal conditions, alongside a dedicated fetal medicine unit and maternal medicine centre.
• Team Structure: You will join a dynamic team of 25 consultants, senior clinical fellows, registrars (StR1–7), foundation doctors, and specialist midwives.
• On-call Commitments: Full participation in a 1:9 on-call rota for obstetrics and gynaecology is required.
Non-Clinical Opportunities: This role includes significant opportunity for research, teaching, and audit work, with dedicated time and access to an active research environment. Funding is available for relevant subspecialty courses.

The Hospital
 Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a modern, 1,200-bed teaching hospital on the Norwich Research Park, one of Europe’s largest single-site research clusters. It provides both secondary and tertiary care and has a second site at Cromer and District Hospital. Specialist services include neonatal care, oncology, orthopaedics, cardiology, and more. The hospital has strong links with University of East Anglia and major research institutions.

The Location
 Norwich is a historic and vibrant city in East Anglia, home to a diverse, international population. It offers a lower cost of living than many UK cities, excellent transport links—including a nearby international airport—and direct trains to London. With its excellent schools, green spaces, and proximity to the Norfolk coast, it’s a family-friendly location ideal for both work and leisure.

Essential criteria:

  • O & G experience in a Registrar post for at least 3 years
  • Full registration with the GMC and with Licence to Practise
  • Basic medical qualification (MB BS or equivalent)
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • Registered for with significant progression in ATSM or SITM in fetal and/or maternal medicine or equivalent.

Desirable criteria:

  • UK experience in Senior Registrar level (3rd tier resident)
  • Post-graduate degree (MD, PhD) or post-graduate fellowship experience.
  • Research experience as principle investigator (PI)
  • Research presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals
