Transform Respiratory Care in Regional NSW

This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Respiratory Physician to join a growing and ambitious respiratory team in a vibrant regional centre in Western New South Wales. Be part of a developing specialty department that is driving excellence in patient outcomes, training, and innovation across a large health district.

As a Staff Specialist in Respiratory Medicine, you will provide high-quality clinical care, lead service development, and contribute to teaching and quality improvement initiatives that shape the future of respiratory care for regional Australians.

Main Duties:

  • Ward and Clinic Services: Deliver inpatient and outpatient respiratory services, including bronchoscopy and intercostal chest drain procedures.
  • Patient Demographics: Manage a broad spectrum of respiratory conditions in both acute and chronic cases from rural and regional communities.
  • Team Environment: Join a close-knit team including two full-time Respiratory Physicians, a Respiratory Scientist, and a CNC, along with JMOs and trainees.
  • On-Call Commitments: Participate in general medical on-call rota (1 in 12) and ward-based respiratory support on a 1 in 3 roster.
  • Non-Clinical Contributions: Engage in clinical supervision, departmental education, hospital Grand Rounds, teaching of Basic and Advanced Trainees, audits, research, and quality improvement programs.

The Hospital:

You will work within a major regional referral hospital, with more than 170 beds and extensive specialist and generalist services. The hospital is a centre of excellence in Western NSW, serving a large, diverse geographical region. It is actively expanding and upgrading its capabilities, making it a centre of ongoing clinical and educational development.

The Location:

This regional city of around 55,000 residents in Western New South Wales offers:

  • Affordable, high-quality living with spacious housing and significantly lower living costs than metropolitan areas.
  • Education and Community: Family-friendly with excellent schooling options and a diverse, welcoming population.
  • Access and Transport: Daily flights to Sydney, strong highway and rail links, and proximity to other major regional centres.
  • Lifestyle: A thriving cultural, food, and outdoor recreation scene with ample access to nature, parks, and local attractions.

This location offers the best of both worlds—professional opportunity and lifestyle flexibility.

Requirements:

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or eligibility via an overseas trained specialist pathway.
  • Current (or eligible) registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
