Staff Specialist, General Medicine with Sub-specialty interest

Location: New South Wales (NSW)


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Staff Specialist – General Medicine to join our dynamic and collaborative physician team in a regional NSW hospital. This is a 0.5 FTE position in General Medicine combined with a 0.5 FTE subspecialty commitment.

In the general medicine component, you will be responsible for providing medical care to inpatients across admitting general wards, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), and Emergency Department. In the subspecialty half of the role, you will contribute your expertise in one of the following areas: Cardiology, Geriatric Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, or Neurology. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Provision of specialist in-patient care in general medicine (wards, ICU, HDU, ED) 

  • Subspecialty clinical duties (outpatient/inpatient) in your chosen field (e.g., Geriatrics, Cardiology, etc.) 

  • Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care 

  • Clinical leadership, education, and mentoring of junior medical staff

  • Participation in on-call / after-hours roster as required

  • Engagement in quality improvement, audit, and clinical governance activities

Required Qualifications & Attributes

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (or equivalent) in General Medicine, and/or appropriate subspecialty accreditation

  • AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) registration without restrictions

  • Demonstrated experience working in inpatient general medicine and subspecialty care

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills

  • Commitment to rural/regional health and improving patient outcomes in diverse communities
