Are you a passionate and experienced Gastroenterologist looking to expand your career in a dynamic and well-supported environment? This is your opportunity to join a forward-thinking team in a thriving regional city with a strong community, excellent amenities, and unparalleled lifestyle benefits.

As a Staff Specialist in Gastroenterology, you'll play a vital leadership role within a multi-disciplinary medical team, helping to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. You’ll also mentor and support junior doctors, contribute to training programs, and help shape the future of regional medical services.

Main Duties:

  • Clinical Focus: Provide specialist care across general medical wards, outpatient gastroenterology clinics, emergency department consultations, and outreach services across the district.
  • Patient Demographics: Manage a wide spectrum of adult gastroenterological conditions, with diverse cases coming from regional and rural catchment areas.
  • Collaborative Team: Work closely with other physicians, junior medical officers, advanced trainees, nurses, GPs, and specialists across the Health Service and Western NSW Local Health District.
  • On-Call Commitments: Participate in the general medical on-call roster (approximately 1 in 12), plus inpatient respiratory consultation rotations (1 in 3).
  • Non-Clinical Opportunities: Actively contribute to teaching junior doctors, participate in research and audits, and lead departmental quality improvement and accreditation efforts.

The Hospital:

This major regional referral hospital features over 170 beds and provides a broad range of specialist services. It is undergoing continual investment and development, offering state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge medical technology. The hospital serves a large geographical area and is a key training site affiliated with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

The Location:

The role is based in a vibrant regional city of around 55,000 people in Western New South Wales. Known for its welcoming community and family-friendly lifestyle, the city offers:

  • Affordable living with modern housing options and a lower cost of living compared to major cities.

  • Transport links including a well-connected regional airport with daily flights to Sydney, and road/rail access to other major centres.
  • Cultural diversity, a growing international population, and a dynamic community with arts, sports, and entertainment.
