About the Hospitals/Trusts

Glasgow and the surrounding region offer a strong mix of acute NHS providers-from large teaching centres to high-performing district general hospitals. We regularly support placements across the following Trusts:

  • NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde - Scotland’s largest acute system including Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
  • NHS Lanarkshire - Acute hospitals at Monklands, Hairmyres and Wishaw serving Glasgow’s commuter belt.
  • NHS Forth Valley - Forth Valley Royal Hospital providing modern acute care to communities north‑east of Glasgow.
  • NHS Ayrshire & Arran - University Hospital Ayr and Crosshouse delivering acute and emergency services to the west coast.
  • NHS Lothian - Within reach for specialties and national services across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
  • NHS Tayside - Acute services centred on Ninewells Hospital and Perth Royal Infirmary within the wider region.

Together these Trusts create a diverse clinical landscape with excellent opportunities for training, sub-specialisation and progression across medicine, surgery, emergency and diagnostic services.

About the Jobs

Paediatrics & Neonatology services here balance acute presentations with ongoing outpatient and community interfaces. Hospitals typically run dedicated paediatric assessment areas, children’s wards and neonatal units linked into regional networks.

  • Acute paediatrics - front‑door assessment and management of common childhood conditions (respiratory illness, seizures, sepsis, dehydration).
  • Neonatal care - special care and high‑dependency support for premature and unwell neonates, with referral links to regional NICU centres.
  • Clinics - exposure to respiratory, neurology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, allergy and safeguarding pathways.
  • On‑call - participation in paediatric and neonatal resuscitation, stabilisation and safe transfer when required.
  • Teaching - strong emphasis on simulation, bedside teaching and multidisciplinary learning.

The mix of acute and follow‑up work offers excellent variety and the chance to develop focused interests within child health.

Living in Glasgow

Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city, combining professional opportunity with cultural vibrancy and friendly communities.

  • Education - The University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University are long‑established institutions. Families can check Education Scotland inspection reports for local schools.
  • Community - Glasgow Cathedral, Glasgow Central Mosque and Gurdwara Singh Sabha reflect a diverse faith landscape.
