This is an exciting opportunity for a Paediatrician to join a forward-thinking paediatric team in Wales. You will work across acute paediatrics, neonates, and outpatient services while being supported to develop specialist interests, pursue further education, or take on leadership and teaching opportunities.
The Health Board is proud to offer flexibility for doctors wanting to balance clinical practice with developing additional skills. Up to 13 sessions per week can be offered, including protected time for special interests and supporting professional activities (SPAs). The role involves daytime and out-of-hours cover on a 1:8 rota, ensuring a varied and rewarding workload.
Main Duties:
- Provide high-quality care across general paediatrics, the neonatal unit, and paediatric outpatients.
- Take part in ward rounds, assessment unit care, and planned day-case reviews.
- Participate in an on-call rota, including evenings and weekends, with consultant support.
- Supervise and support junior doctors, medical students, physician associates, and advanced nurse practitioners.
- Undertake protected SPA time to develop specialist interests in areas such as acute/ambulatory paediatrics, medical education, CAMHS interface, respiratory paediatrics, obesity services, or quality improvement.
- Engage in teaching, simulation training, and audit activities.
- Work within a supportive clinical network with strong links to regional tertiary centres.
The Hospital:
You will be based at a modern district general hospital serving a large and diverse population. Facilities include:
- A 10-bed neonatal unit providing special care and high dependency, with access to a regional neonatal intensive care network and transport service.
- A newly developed Emergency Department with a dedicated paediatric area.
- A paediatric assessment unit (5 beds) and a 19-bed children’s inpatient ward, including paediatric HDU capacity.
- A refurbished outpatient department with consulting rooms, hosting multidisciplinary and specialist clinics.
- A strong teaching culture with links to local universities, offering regular undergraduate placements and postgraduate education.
- A busy Education Centre with library, IT resources, simulation suite, and on-site NLS/EPALS training.
The Location:
The hospital is located in one of the UK’s most scenic regions - North West Wales. The area combines stunning mountains, national parks, and sandy coastlines, offering an exceptional lifestyle for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking, climbing, sailing, and water sports are all on your doorstep, while cultural hubs, historic towns, and local festivals bring the community together year-round.
The region is also highly practical for relocation, with affordable housing, excellent schools, and a safe, welcoming atmosphere for families. Despite its peaceful setting, the area is well connected: nearby road and rail links provide straightforward access to major cities in North West England (Liverpool, Manchester, and Chester), while airports offer easy travel across the UK and internationally.
Living here gives you the chance to enjoy both professional development and a relaxed, family-friendly lifestyle in one of the most desirable parts of the UK.
Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full GMC registration.
- NHS experience at middle grade level in general paediatrics and neonatology
