This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced doctor to join a busy and supportive Paediatric Department as a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics. The post offers a varied workload across general paediatrics and neonatology, with opportunities to develop a subspecialty interest and to gain experience equivalent to higher specialty training. Working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team, the role provides exposure to both inpatient and outpatient care, teaching and audit, as well as quality improvement and service development projects.
Main Duties:
- Provide clinical care across general paediatrics, neonatal, and outpatient services under consultant supervision
- Participate in a 3-tier rota system covering acute paediatric and neonatal services (middle-grade level)
- Contribute to outpatient clinics and community paediatric activity
- Participate in teaching, audit, research and quality improvement projects
- Support and supervise junior trainees, medical students and allied health professionals
- Attend departmental teaching sessions and multidisciplinary meetings
- Maintain active participation in clinical governance, CPD and service development
The Hospital:
The children’s service is part of a large and well-integrated Women & Children’s Division, providing comprehensive paediatric and neonatal care for the surrounding population. Facilities include:
- A 22-bed children’s ward, including cubicles for isolation care
- A 5-bed Paediatric Assessment Unit co-located with the Emergency Department
- A Neonatal Unit with 12 cots, including intensive and high-dependency care (typically for infants ≥27 weeks gestation)
- A purpose-built children’s centre for outpatient and developmental services
- Strong tertiary links with regional centres in neonatology, neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, surgery and nephrology
- On-site visiting specialists holding regular clinics across major paediatric subspecialties

Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- MRCPCH (desirable)
- Minimum of 12 months’ experience in paediatrics and six months in neonatology in the NHS
- APLS and NLS
- Experience in audit, child protection and teaching
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
