This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a busy, forward-thinking paediatric team as a Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics. The role combines general paediatric and neonatal responsibilities within a supportive multidisciplinary service. Main Duties: 

  • Participate in a 1:13 full-shift middle grade rota covering general paediatrics and neonates
  • Deliver inpatient and acute paediatric care, including the Emergency Department, Children’s Assessment Unit and Paediatric Inpatient Unit
  • Provide neonatal care within a Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit and attend delivery suite emergencies
  • Contribute to outpatient clinics, including opportunities for independent registrar clinics alongside consultants
  • Participate in teaching, audit, simulation training and departmental guideline development
  • Supervise junior doctors and contribute to multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Engage in quality improvement and governance activities 

The Hospital:

The children’s service is supported by a team of 12 consultants, 10 junior doctors and a dynamic middle-grade team. Facilities include:

  • A 20+ bedded paediatric inpatient ward (with HDU capability)
  • Children’s Assessment Unit co-located with the Emergency Department
  • A Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit caring for around 3,600 births annually
  • Dedicated outpatient suites, running general and specialist paediatric clinics
  • Strong links with tertiary centres and opportunities for subspecialty exposure
  • Well-equipped education and simulation facilities, with active teaching and training programmes

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC registration
  • At least three years’ experience in paediatrics, including neonatal exposure
  • 1 year paediatrics experience in the NHS at registrar level
  • Confidence in managing acute paediatric and neonatal cases with appropriate senior support
  • APLS and NLS certification
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Evidence of participation in teaching, audit or quality improvement
