An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor in Child Health to join a supportive and friendly team in a modern district general hospital serving a large rural and semi-urban population in Scotland.

This post combines the breadth of general paediatrics with responsibilities in a Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), supporting approximately 1,000 deliveries per year. You will provide resident inpatient cover at registrar level for both acute paediatrics and neonatology, working closely with a consultant body who are actively engaged in service development, education, and clinical governance.

Main Duties: 

  • Provide acute inpatient tier 2 cover for paediatrics and neonates.
  • Contribute to outpatient and/or community paediatrics, with opportunities to develop a specialist interest.
  • Participate in child protection work and developmental assessments as required.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including advanced nurse practitioners, trainees, and visiting specialists from regional centres.
  • Engage in audit, teaching, and quality improvement activities.

The Department:

  • 11-bed mixed specialty paediatric ward plus 8-cot SCBU.
  • Close integration with maternity and obstetrics, theatres, and anaesthetic support.
  • Visiting specialist clinics from regional tertiary centres (e.g., neurology, endocrinology, surgery, urology).
  • Strong links with CAMHS and community child health services.
  • Well-equipped education centre, library, and regular postgraduate teaching.

Requirements:

  • GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • Minimum 2 years working in paediatrics in the NHS
  • Broad clinical experience in general paediatrics and neonatology
  • Commitment to teamwork, teaching, and continuous professional development
