A leading NHS trust in South East England is searching for a Specialty Doctor in Geriatric Medicine to fill a fixed term (12 month) position. Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive care to older patients across various settings, including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and the frailty service. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing day-to-day care for patients with frailty on geriatric medicine wards and acute floors.
  • Engaging in specialist roles such as dementia care, Parkinson's care, or surgical liaison.
  • Supervising and instructing junior medical staff, including foundation, GP, or internal medicine trainees.
  • Communicating relevant clinical information to medical, technical, and nursing staff within and outside the department.
  • Teaching and supervising medical students, physician associate students, nurses, and junior trainees.
  • Supporting and developing quality improvement initiatives aligned with departmental and hospital objectives.
  • Participating in the out-of-hours and weekend on-call frailty rota.

This role is particularly suitable for those considering Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) applications in geriatric medicine.

The Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • GMC registered with a licence to practice 
  • Minimum of four years' full-time postgraduate employment (or equivalent), with at least two years in a specialty training programme or fixed-term post in a relevant specialty.
  • Evidence of ST3+ level procedural skills relevant to medical patients.
  • Evidence of teaching experience and/or training in teaching 
  • Ability to manage patients independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to travel between sites. 

Desirable Criteria:

  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
  • Diploma in Geriatric Medicine or Palliative Care.
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary team independently.
  • Participation in research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
