We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine to join a supportive and forward-thinking Emergency Department. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a busy and varied clinical environment that offers wide exposure to acute medicine, trauma, and minor injuries. The post is a full-time position.

The Job

The post involves participating in a 1 in 8 full shift rota and is based in a high-performing Emergency Department that manages approximately 50,000 attendances annually. The role offers excellent opportunities for professional development, with protected time for SPA (Supporting Professional Activities), and active involvement in teaching and audit.

Duties include:

  • Frontline assessment and management of acutely unwell patients
  • Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff

The Location

The post is based at a modern acute hospital in a scenic and culturally rich region in Northern Ireland. The area is well-connected with good transport links and offers an excellent quality of life, including affordable housing, excellent schools, and access to outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and coastal exploration.

The Trust

The successful candidate will be joining a large Health and Social Care Trust serving a population of nearly 390,000 people. The Trust employs over 15,000 staff and delivers integrated hospital, community, and primary care services. Acute services are provided across multiple hospital sites, and the Emergency Department works closely with local Minor Injuries Units and primary care services.

The Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise (or eligibility by the time of appointment)
  • NHS experience at a tier 4 level is mandatory
  • Minimum of 4 years post-graduate experience, including at least 2 years in a relevant specialty or specialty training programme
  • Demonstrable communication skills in English
  • Current driving licence and access to a vehicle (unless exempt under disability provisions)

Desirable Criteria:

  • ALS/ATLS/APLS certifications
  • Formal teaching qualification or experience
  • Previous experience in audit or clinical governance activities
