The Emergency Department at a hospital on the South coast of England are seeking a motivated and experienced doctor to join their team. The job plan will be based on 10 PAs to include 9 DCC PAs and 1 SPA, and will allow for flexible working and time shifting through a self-rostering system. This will be worked flexibly over a seven-day working week. The hospital is situated in an ideal location for all walks of life, with great schools in the area and larger cities easily accessible.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work a full shift rota within the department, providing 24-hour departmental cover including medical cover for the A&E ward, and review overnight patients on that ward. There is protected middle grade teaching weekly, with the Trust having a strong simulation department. Duties will include:

  • Care of patients on the observation wards or CDU as required.
  • Referral of patients to appropriate in-patient facilities
  • Care of critically ill patients and resuscitation of patients in Accident and Emergency
  • Trauma team leader (with the appropriate training provided if necessary)
  • Supervision of Trainees

The Department

The department is in a mid-sized District General Hospital that is part of a Trust serving 1.8 million patients. The department itself sees around 63,000 cases per year, and has a fully equipped resuscitation area and eleven overnight observation beds and a dedicated paediatric A&E area. Not only does the urgent and emergency services in this department provide ‘outstanding’ quality of service to patients – as rated by the Care Quality Commission, but the workforce in this department is also well looked after. The department provides a generous amount of non-clinical time to pursue specialty interests, they have a proven track record of supporting their doctors through the CESR programme, and have opportunities for personalised fellowship programmes.

The climate in this area is some of the most favorable in the whole of the UK, providing plenty of opportunities to explore and enjoy the fabulous coastline it is situated on. It is also an excellent prospect for families, with a great choice of primary and secondary schools in the local area. Transport links to neighboring cities and towns is also second-to-none, with direct trains to London, Portsmouth and Brighton to experience the buzz of a larger city.

  • MRCEM or equivalent Postgraduate qualifications
  • Prior NHS experience
