We are working with a major healthcare provider in the East of England to recruit a Specialty Doctor in ENT. This is a brilliant opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team offering specialist Head and Neck services across a large patient population. The role is ideal for a doctor with strong ENT experience who is looking to further develop both clinically and professionally in a supportive and high-performing environment.

Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary ENT team, primarily based at a regional hub for Head and Neck services. The post includes:

  • Participation in outpatient clinics, theatres, and ward-based care
  • Performing day-case and 23-hour stay operating lists, with supervision as required
  • Delivering emergency services as part of a non-resident on-call rota for the regional ENT network
  • Supporting the management of elective and emergency ENT cases, including cancer referrals
  • Engaging in teaching, clinical governance, and audit activities
  • Working collaboratively with cancer managers and colleagues to ensure timely, high-quality patient care

The weekly timetable includes 8.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs), covering clinics, theatre sessions, ward cover, and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) involvement. A structured induction and mentoring programme will be provided.

The Hospital

The hospital operates as a key regional centre for specialist Head and Neck (ENT) surgery, serving a population of nearly 2 million across the region. It houses a dedicated Head & Neck surgical ward, a day surgery unit, and state-of-the-art outpatient facilities equipped with microscopes, laryngoscopy tools, and camera systems.

It is also the designated cancer centre for Head & Neck conditions in the area and benefits from co-location with plastic surgery, burns, and maxillofacial services, enabling comprehensive, multi-specialty care. The ENT department includes consultants with expertise in otology, rhinology, voice disorders, and paediatrics. Medical secretarial support and modern office accommodation are provided, along with access to a full-time librarian and medical library resources.

The Location

This location offers an excellent quality of life, providing easy access to the coast, while remaining well-connected to London and surrounding towns. With a population of over 100,000, the city blends historic charm with modern convenience, including a vibrant town centre, highly-rated schools, green spaces and cultural amenities.

The area is ideal for families and professionals alike, offering a mix of urban and suburban living with access to beautiful countryside and coastal attractions. Reliable transport links, including direct rail services to London Liverpool Street, make it a convenient base for commuters and those relocating from other parts of the UK or overseas.

The Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • At least 4 years of postgraduate training, with 2 years in a specialty training programme in ENT or equivalent experience
  • Broad knowledge and training in ENT surgery
  • Ability to work independently and manage patient care under indirect supervision
  • Excellent communication skills and team-working abilities
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and full GMC registration with a licence to practice

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in teaching junior doctors and primary care colleagues
  • Recent peer-reviewed research publications
