Specialist/Consultant in Community General Adult Psychiatry

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic and forward-thinking mental health team in West Wales as a Consultant in Community General Adult Psychiatry. Based at a well-resourced community mental health centre in a vibrant university town, this role offers the chance to shape the future of adult mental health care within a supportive and innovative environment.
Main Duties:
• Ward/Service Base: Primarily community-based with regular clinical duties at a dedicated mental health resource centre. Some travel across the service area and wider region will be required.
• Patient Profile: You will provide secondary care for adult community mental health patients, supporting a caseload of approximately 160 individuals under Care and Treatment Planning (CTP). The service typically receives 17 CMHT referrals per week, including around 5 new psychiatry referrals.
• Team Structure: The multidisciplinary team includes mental health nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, and healthcare support workers. You'll also be supported by a Clinical Fellow, with future opportunities for teaching junior doctors.
• On-call Rota: 1 in 14 off-site on-call across psychiatric specialties. Mostly telephone support and RC cover. Time-in-lieu for on-call commitments is provided.
• Non-Clinical Time: The role includes protected time for:
- Weekly academic meetings and CPD
- Clinical audit with departmental support
- Teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates
- Research with university links and local R&D support
The Hospital
The health board operates multiple acute and community healthcare sites, covering a large and predominantly rural region of Wales. It delivers a wide range of mental health and learning disability services, including Crisis Resolution Teams, Inpatient Units, Early Intervention, Perinatal, Eating Disorder, and Substance Misuse services. There are opportunities for involvement in teaching, clinical skills development, and research through established university partnerships.

Consultant Requirements
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
• Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
• MRCPsych or FRCPsych
• CCT (or CESR/CESR-CP) or within 6 months of achieving it
• Approved Clinician and Section 12 approval preferred
• Broad experience in General Adult Psychiatry
• Strong understanding of UK clinical practice and audit/CPD participation
Specialist Requirements
• 12 years post graduate experience, 6 of those years must be in Psychiatry
