We’re so excited to be working with a University Teaching Hospital in the North East who are looking for enthusiastic Specialist Grade Doctors in Clinical Oncology. This is a welcoming and dynamic team with the ability to provide unique and tailored CESR support for all exposures.  

There are two positions available due to ongoing service expansion at Consultant grade. These specialist positions are perfect for overseas Consultants looking for an initial period of support and supervision whilst they adjust to the NHS system. 
 
The oncology and haematology department offers a full range of adult cancer services with 116 inpatient beds, full outpatient facilities including a designated chemotherapy delivery suite and 6 linear accelerators.

Role:

  • Participation in audit / appraisal and CME is mandatory under clinical governance / RCR / RCP / GMC guidance.
  • Time is allowed within core SPAs to take part in audit and there is a dedicated audit lead for the department.
  • 10 days of study leave per annum are funded for CPD and training.
  • Duties other than those clinical duties specified will be in accordance with the job plan agreed between the appointee, the clinical lead and the chief executive. The job plan allows for Administration, Teaching and Medical Audit.
  • Secretarial support and appropriate office accommodation and IT facilities will be provided.
  • A standard full time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities (PAs) comprising 8 PAs for direct  clinical care (DCC) and 2 for supporting activities (SPAs).
  • 1.5 SPAs are classed as ‘core’ and cover time for training, teaching, CPD, audit, appraisal, clinical governance and attendance at service meetings.
  • Opportunities to participate in undergraduate teaching within the HYMS medical school curriculum.
  • The job plan incorporates a 1 in 16 on-call rota.
  • The week is split into Monday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday.
  • Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy sessions

Continuing Professional Development:

  1. CESR – The Trust is very well equipped to provide comprehensive CESR support. The specialist positions are designed to encourage doctors to spend their SPA’s rotating through the clinical exposures necessary to complete a portfolio submission. Whilst Breast and Urology are the main tumour sites within the job plan, a rota will be tailored to each applicants needs.

  3. Audit - There are full facilities and support for audits. Audits are done from an agreed plan set departmentally on a yearly basis.

Requirements

In order to apply for this role you will need:

  • GMC Registration complete (or awaiting ID check)
  • PLAB, MRCP or FRCR (or equivalent)
  • Language test (OET or IELTS)
  • ECFMG verification
  • Prior experience working as an independent Oncologist
  • Experience with teaching and training of junior doctors
  • Experience prescribing SACT
