We are working with a leading cancer centre in South East England, seeking a Specialist Doctor in Oncology to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in a highly regarded cancer service. 

Role and Responsibilities

In this full-time role (10 sessions per week), you will support a consultant-led service focusing on systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) for breast cancer patients. You will attend and conduct outpatient clinics both within the main centre and peripheral clinics, undertake related administrative duties, and provide chemotherapy prescribing. Responsibilities include: 

  • Attending Consultant led out-patient clinics (both in the Centre and Peripheral Clinics), and undertaking related admin and chemotherapy prescribing.
  • Conducting out-patient led clinics independently. 
  • Supervision of SHOs and ward patients
  • Review of patients attending for chemotherapy and radiotherapy if required by nursing or radiography staff
  • Teaching of SHOs and medical students
  • Involvement in clinical governance and audit activities

The Hospital

The hospital is part of a major cancer centre serving a large regional population of around 1.8 million, attending to approximately 8,000 new patients new patients every year.  

The centre benefits from state-of-the-art facilities including linear accelerator treatment machines, CT planning simulators and comprehensive radiotherapy/chemotherapy services. There are dedicated research teams conducting over 80 clinical trials, supported by close ties with academic institutions and a strong focus on investigator-led research.

Facilities include advanced imaging and diagnostic services, a dedicated brachytherapy theatre, chemotherapy day units and robust IT systems for prescribing and patient management. The multidisciplinary team comprises experienced consultants, specialty doctors, clinical fellows, radiographers, physicists and research staff. The hospital places great emphasis on research and education, encouraging active participation in clinical studies and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

The hospital is located in a historic city in South East England, known for its medieval architecture. The Requirements

Essential criteria:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Good general medical experience. 
  • Oncology experience at Senior Specialist Registrar level or equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a team and provide clinical as well as administrative support.
  • Capability to run independent clinics under consultant supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a caring attitude towards patients.
  • Commitment to ongoing medical education and professional development.

Desirable criteria:

  • Higher qualification in medicine or surgery.
  • Experience in clinical audit and research.
  • Experience participating in specialist clinics.
