The Opportunity

BDI Resourcing are working with a well-regarded NHS Trust in South West England to recruit a Specialist Doctor in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive, forward-thinking radiology department within a regionally significant acute hospital, offering a dynamic clinical environment and a strong emphasis on professional development.

This post is ideal for radiologists with a solid foundation in diagnostic radiology and an interest in Interventional Radiology. You will work closely with six Consultant Interventional Radiologists across a wide-ranging caseload, including acute, elective, and vascular intervention.

Key Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be confident in:

  • Performing general diagnostic radiology including CT, MRI, and ultrasound.
  • Delivering interventional radiology procedures including angioplasty, embolisation, biopsies, and drainages.
  • Supporting the regional 24/7 IR rota (with Consultant oversight).
  • Reporting cross-sectional imaging, particularly emergency CT and cancer staging.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary meetings and audit activity.
  • Contributing to teaching, service development, and clinical governance.

There is a 1:6 Interventional Radiology on-call commitment with full Consultant support. Diagnostic out-of-hours work can be discussed based on experience and interest.

Department & Equipment

You will be based at the region’s largest acute hospital, which supports a range of specialist services including vascular, oncology, gastroenterology, trauma and stroke care.

The Radiology Department is equipped with:

  • Siemens Artis Q IR Suite (2021) and access to hybrid theatres
  • Cydar AI and IVUS for vascular interventions
  • 3 CT scanners and 3 MRI units (including Siemens Vida 3T)
  • Advanced fluoroscopy, ultrasound and gamma camera services
  • Integrated PACS and RIS across the Trust
  • Home reporting capabilities and flexible working arrangements

Person Specification

  • Full GMC Registration (or eligible to apply)
  • Minimum 12 years post-primary medical qualification
  • 6+ years in clinical radiology, including IR exposure
  • FRCR or equivalent postgraduate qualification
  • Strong general radiology reporting skills
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and teaching skills
