Senior Clinical Fellow in Neonatology

This is an excellent opportunity for doctors with previous neonatal experience to gain further exposure in a busy, high-performing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The post is ideally suited to candidates at ST4–ST8 equivalent level who wish to strengthen their neonatal skills in preparation for a national training post or consultant-level appointment.
The unit is one of the largest of its kind in the UK, providing tertiary neonatal care, including surgical and high-dependency management. The successful applicants will join a highly skilled and supportive team of consultants, middle grades, ANNPs and junior trainees within a service consistently recognised for excellence in training and clinical care.
Main Duties:
- Provide day-to-day management of the Neonatal Intensive Care, High Dependency and Special Care areas
- Attend and manage high-risk deliveries, including those in labour and operating theatres
- Supervise and support junior doctors (ST1–3 level) and work collaboratively with ANNPs
- Participate in consultant-led ward rounds held three times daily
- Deliver care to babies on postnatal wards when required
- Participate in teaching for medical students and junior trainees
- Contribute to audit, clinical governance and service development activities
- Work a full shift rota as part of a large, well-supported team
The Hospital and Neonatal unit:
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit supports approximately 7,000 births each year and serves as a tertiary referral centre for high-risk pregnancies and neonatal care. Facilities include:
- 12 Intensive Care cots, 8 High Dependency, 18 Special Care and 6 Transitional Care cots
- Management of infants as premature as 22 weeks gestation
- Access to full range of interventions, including high-frequency oscillation (HFO), LISA, nitric oxide therapy, and echocardiography
- Regional referral centre for preterm surgical cases
- A dedicated team of over a dozen consultant neonatologists and senior fellows
- Established teaching programme with opportunities for involvement in simulation and audit
This is a centre recognised nationally for excellent training and development opportunities, offering structured teaching, clinical supervision and exposure to a full spectrum of neonatal pathology.

Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in neonatal medicine in the NHS
- NLS and APLS
- Confidence managing ventilated and critically unwell neonates under senior supervision
- Evidence of teaching, audit or research involvement
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
