Senior Clinical Fellow in General Paediatrics and Neonates

This 12-month post offers middle grade doctors the chance to gain broad experience across both general paediatrics and neonatology. The role combines inpatient ward work, outpatient clinics, and neonatal duties within a Level 2 unit, supported by a team of consultants and advanced nurse practitioners. With a varied caseload and structured teaching programme, the post provides excellent preparation for progression in paediatrics while contributing to high-quality care for children and families in the region.

Main Duties: 

  • Provide inpatient care on a 30-bed children’s ward, a 9-bed Paediatric Assessment Unit and outpatient clinics
  • Participate in the neonatal rota, including work on a Level 2 Neonatal Unit
  • Attend and manage paediatric and neonatal emergencies, including delivery suite resuscitations
  • Supervise and support more junior doctors and ANNPs
  • Participate in outpatient general paediatric clinics under consultant supervision
  • Contribute to teaching, audit and service development

The Hospital:

The Children’s Unit is located within a purpose-built Women & Children’s wing, including:

  • A 30-bed paediatric ward with 2 HDU beds
  • A 9-bed Paediatric Assessment Unit seeing approximately 4,000 cases per year
  • A dedicated outpatient department with 10 clinic rooms and specialist nurse-led services
  • A Level 2 Neonatal Unit with 20 cots
  • Specialist paediatric clinics in diabetes, respiratory, gastroenterology, cardiology, allergy, nephrology and more, with strong tertiary links

The hospital is based in the East of England, with direct rail services to London, road access via the A1 and A14, and nearby regional airports for national and international travel. The surrounding area combines city facilities with nearby countryside and historic towns. Housing is comparatively affordable, schools are well regarded, and a diverse community provides a welcoming environment for professionals and families.

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC registration
  • At least two years’ experience in paediatrics, including neonatal exposure in the NHS
  • Confidence in managing acutely unwell children and neonates, including essential neonatal procedures
  • APLS/NLS
  • Commitment to teamwork, teaching and ongoing professional development
