Senior Clinical Fellow in General Paediatrics

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain broad experience in general paediatrics within a busy and supportive service. The post is based on the tier 2 doctor rota, providing experience across inpatient, outpatient and emergency paediatrics. Educational supervision, audit, governance and teaching opportunities are all embedded into the role, making it ideal for doctors looking to consolidate registrar-level skills in preparation for progression within paediatrics.

Main Duties: 

  • Participate in the tier 2 rota, including days, nights and weekends
  • Provide care across inpatient wards, the paediatric assessment unit, and outpatient clinics
  • Support junior trainees and work closely with the consultant body
  • Attend and manage paediatric emergencies in the ward and Emergency Department
  • Take part in teaching, audit, governance and quality improvement work
  • Attend departmental educational meetings and contribute to journal clubs and seminars

The Hospital:

The paediatric service provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient care, emergency paediatrics and specialist services. Facilities include:

  • 20-bed inpatient ward for medical, surgical and orthopaedic admissions, including a young person’s unit
  • 10-bed day case ward for medical and surgical procedures
  • A dedicated Paediatric Emergency Department, seeing around 25,000 children annually
  • A Child Assessment Service for children with neurodisability and behavioural needs
  • Strong links with tertiary centres for cardiology, gastroenterology, genetics, neurology, orthopaedics, rheumatology and more

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC registration
  • Experience in general paediatrics, including inpatient and emergency work in the NHS
  • APLS or EPALS
  • MRCPCH
  • Evidence of teaching, audit and governance activity
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
