Introduction to the Job
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Emergency Medicine Registrar (ST4+ equivalent) to join a busy and forward-thinking Emergency Department within a high-performing NHS Trust in the South-West. This post offers comprehensive clinical exposure, high-acuity case mix, exceptional consultant support and protected education - ideal for clinicians preparing for exams or seeking further middle-grade EM development. They have a self-rostering rota and a substantive CESR programme with available placements in all relevant specialities
Main Duties
You will work across all areas of the Emergency Department, including:
- 4 Resuscitation bays (including 1 paediatric)
- 6 High Care cubicles
- 17 Majors cubicles
- Minors area
- Dedicated Paediatric ED
- A 6-bed Observation Unit
The ED sees over 72,000 patients per year, with a high proportion of high-acuity and ambulance-borne cases. You will manage:
- Adult and paediatric emergencies
- Trauma cases (the hospital functions as a regional trauma unit)
- Cardiovascular emergencies (onsite PCI)
- Stroke cases with 24/7 thrombolysis
- Complex medical and surgical emergencies
You will join a large, supportive multidisciplinary team:
- 19 WTE EM Consultants providing extended shop-floor cover
- Training and non-training middle grades
- 29 SHOs
- Advanced Nurse Practitioners
- Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Urgent Care Practitioners
The department benefits from strong support from radiology, pathology, Acute Medicine, Elderly Care, ICU and regional specialist networks.

Requirements
To be eligible, you will need:
- Full GMC registration with license to practice
- Ability to work at ST4+ level
- NHS experience as the EPIC
- ALS / APLS / ATLS (or equivalent life support courses)
