BDI Resourcing is offering an exceptional opportunity for a Principal House Officer (PHO) in Emergency Medicine, ideal for doctors seeking hands-on experience in a high-acuity environment with broad clinical exposure. This regional hospital-based role supports those working toward ACEM training or preparing for advanced practice in Emergency Medicine.

Main Duties:

In this position, you will:

  • Provide high-quality emergency medical care under consultant supervision
  • Perform assessment, diagnosis, management, and appropriate referral of a broad range of presentations
  • Participate in trauma resuscitation, procedural care, and critical decision-making
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and students
  • Contribute to audit, research, and clinical governance activities

You will care for a diverse caseload including:

  • Adult and paediatric emergencies
  • Major trauma and resuscitation cases
  • Mental health and toxicology presentations
  • Rural and remote patient transfers
  • High acuity and multi-system emergencies

What Other Colleagues Are in the Team?

The Emergency Department includes:

  • FACEM consultants
  • Advanced trainees and Principal House Officers
  • Junior Medical Officers
  • Dedicated emergency nurses and allied health professionals
     The team is highly collaborative, offering strong clinical mentorship and regular educational sessions.

On-Call Rota:

You will work across a full rotating shift roster, including day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts. Rostering practices ensure balance, rest periods, and fair allocation.

Time for Non-Clinical Work:

You’ll have access to protected non-clinical time for:

  • Education and simulation training
  • Teaching opportunities
  • Participation in quality improvement and departmental meetings
  • Study leave provisions if pursuing formal training

  • A modern Emergency Department with dedicated resus, fast-track, and paediatric bays
  • Approximately 30,000 ED presentations annually
  • Onsite specialties including General Medicine, Surgery, Maternity, and Mental Health

Requirements:

To be eligible for this role, applicants must have:

  • MBBS or equivalent and current registration (or eligibility) with AHPRA
  • A minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience, preferably including ED rotations
  • Strong clinical judgement, procedural skills, and teamwork capabilities
  • A desire to progress in Emergency Medicine, whether through ACEM training or broader acute care pathways
  • Commitment to patient safety, professional development, and collaborative care
