The post will provide excellent exposure to both general paediatrics and neonatal care within a well-supported, multidisciplinary team.
This is an excellent opportunity for doctors wanting to strengthen their skills before entering a training programme or for those who would like to gain diverse experience in the UK. You will take part in a structured rota, provide senior clinical decision-making, and supervise junior staff, while also benefiting from teaching, development, and audit opportunities.
Main Duties:
- Participate in an 8-week rolling rota that includes nights, weekends, long days, and on-call commitments.
- Lead on the assessment and management of children admitted through acute paediatric pathways, including emergencies.
- Provide senior-level oversight of neonatal care, including supporting deliveries and admissions to the neonatal unit.
- Supervise, mentor, and guide junior doctors and medical students.
- Take part in daily ward rounds and multidisciplinary team discussions.
- Run and support outpatient and rapid-access clinics under consultant guidance.
- Hold the crash bleep during acute paediatric and neonatal emergencies, initiating resuscitation where required.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of discharge and clinical documentation.
- Actively participate in teaching, audits, and quality improvement projects.
The Hospital:
You will be joining a busy, well-equipped district hospital with dedicated paediatrics facilities, including:
- A paediatric assessment unit for acute admissions.
- A children’s ward offering inpatient care.
- A neonatal unit supporting babies requiring special care.
- On-site consultants providing structured support, alongside advanced paediatric nurses and a full MDT.
- Strong educational links with regional universities, offering regular teaching sessions and opportunities to present.
The Location:
Set in the beautiful South West of England, this location offers an enviable lifestyle alongside a rewarding clinical role. The region combines sandy beaches, rolling countryside, and vibrant towns, giving you the chance to enjoy both relaxation and adventure outside of work.
The area is well known for its outdoor lifestyle — from surfing, sailing, and paddleboarding on the coast to hiking and cycling in nearby national parks. For those who prefer city life, there are thriving cultural hubs within easy reach, offering theatres, live music, independent restaurants, and historic landmarks.
Practical living is equally attractive, with affordable housing compared to many parts of the UK, excellent state and independent schools, and a welcoming community ideal for families.
