The Job

Are you a dedicated medical professional looking to advance your career in Paediatric Intensive Care? BDI Resourcing are seeking motivated Paediatric Intensive Care Registrars and Fellows to join a dynamic and supportive team. In this role, you will provide high-quality care to critically ill children in a tertiary-level paediatric intensive care unit (PICU), gaining valuable experience across a broad range of complex medical conditions.

You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where you will develop advanced skills in critical care, diagnostic reasoning, procedural competency, and paediatric retrieval medicine. The role offers significant training opportunities, including access to structured education programs, hands-on procedural training, and participation in quality improvement and research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialised intensive care assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to critically ill paediatric patients.
  • Assist with procedures, including ultrasound-guided vascular access, lung, and cardiac assessments.
  • Participate in the Paediatric Retrieval Service (CHQRS).
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of paediatric specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records and complete discharge summaries promptly.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and research initiatives.
  • Participate in PICU education programs, simulation training, and audits.
  • Engage in bedside teaching for junior medical staff and students.

For senior registrars, additional responsibilities include supervising junior doctors, developing advanced procedural skills, and participating in paediatric retrieval services.

The Hospital is a leading paediatric tertiary referral hospital and offers comprehensive paediatric services, including neuro-intensive care, trauma and burns, cardiac intensive care, extracorporeal life support (ECLS), liver transplant, oncology, and bone marrow transplant (BMT).

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a highly specialised unit that manages critically ill infants, children, and adolescents. It provides an exceptional learning environment, with structured education programs, simulation-based training, and access to advanced courses such as:

  • Paeds Basic and Advanced Paediatric Intensive Care Simulation (APICS)
  • ECLS Course
  • Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)

Requirements:

To apply for this role, you must have:

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • General Registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • At least three years of postgraduate clinical experience, including two years in paediatrics, emergency medicine, intensive care, or anaesthesia.
  • A commitment to patient-centred care, multidisciplinary teamwork, and professional development.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Airway experience (minimum six months of anaesthesia or 12 months of critical care experience).
  • Retrieval medicine experience.
  • Competence in ICU procedures, such as central line placement.
  • Completion of primary examinations for CICM, RACP, ACEM, or ANZCA.
