What Overseas Doctors Need
If you’re UK-trained or FRCR/FRACP-equivalent, Australia is very accessible. To work as a consultant here, you will need:
- Specialist Recognition (SIMG Assessment) – assessed by the relevant college (RACP for neurology).
- AHPRA Registration – the national licence to practise medicine in Australia.
- English Test (OET/IELTS) – unless exempt.
- Visa – typically a Subclass 482 Skilled Worker visa.
