Salary Range – £109,725 - £145,478 (+ London Weighting Allowance)
Location – London, UK
Duration – Fixed term (up to 12 months, with potential for substantive appointment)

Introduce the job
This NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Locum Consultant Surgeon in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). This post has been created to support and develop the OMFS service within the hospital, with opportunities to progress to a permanent Consultant position. The successful candidate will provide high-quality elective and emergency OMFS care, work closely with a supportive multidisciplinary team, and contribute to teaching, audit, and service development.

Main Duties:
• Outpatient clinics and theatre lists in elective and paediatric OMFS.
• Management of patients requiring facial skin cancer surgery, benign salivary gland and head & neck surgery, tracheostomy, and general OMFS cases.
• Supervision and teaching of junior doctors, SAS doctors, dental trainees, and clinical fellows.
• Participation in departmental teaching, monthly audits, clinical governance, and research.
• Contribution to service planning and development within the OMFS department.
• Opportunities to pursue subspecialty interests with consultant mentorship and support.

The Hospital:
The University Hospital is an award-winning acute and community care provider in East London, rated Outstanding by the CQC. The hospital has nearly 500 beds, 11 wards, a 10-bed ICU, specialist maternity, paediatric, and neonatal services, and a reputation for excellent training and research. Surgical services include OMFS, trauma & orthopaedics, general surgery, ENT, urology, bariatrics, and gynaecology, supported by three day-surgery theatres and six main theatres.

Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Specialist registration in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (or within 6 months of CCT at interview).
• Fellowship of the relevant Royal College or equivalent international qualifications.
• Proven clinical skills across the breadth of OMFS, including adult and paediatric care.
• Commitment to teaching, audit, governance, and continuing professional development.
• IRMER certification (Ionising Radiations Medical Exposures Regulations).
