 A hospital in Southeast England is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Locum Consultant in Plastic Surgery and Burns with a special interest in Hand Surgery and Skin Cancer to join their prestigious NHS trust. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s leading centres for plastic surgery and burns care while working within a forward-thinking, multidisciplinary team.

Main Duties:
What wards will they be spending their time in?
 You will work within the dedicated Burns Unit and Plastic Surgery wards, which has 36 inpatient beds and 20 day-case beds.

What kind of patients will they be seeing?
 The role involves managing a variety of complex cases, including burns, skin cancer, hand injuries, and general plastic surgery patients.

What other colleagues are in the team?
 The team includes over 20 consultants with expertise in hands, trauma, burns, cleft, breast, head & neck, skin cancer, and microsurgical reconstruction.

What is the on-call rota?
 On-call frequency is 1 in 6, with a 5% availability supplement. You’ll also provide cover during colleagues’ leave and emergencies.

Is there time for non-clinical work?
 Yes. 1.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) are allocated for Supporting Professional Activities, which include research, audit, teaching, and CPD.

 The specialist centre is based at one of the trust’s major hospital sites. The unit boasts 36 beds for inpatients and 20 day-case beds, serving a diverse case mix. The renowned Trust operates across three hospital sites providing a wide range of specialist services to a population of over 1.2 million people.

The location:
 The city is well-connected, with a population of around 180,000. It is ideal for professionals and families alike, offering excellent schools, a range of amenities, and a growing international community. The city being just 30 minutes by train from central London and 35 minutes from London Stansted Airport, it makes a popular location. The cost of living is more affordable than London, with excellent transport links and access to the countryside.

Requirements:
 To apply for this position, you will need:
 • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
 • Full GMC registration with licence to practise (or eligible within 6 months)
 • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or CESR
 • Fellowship in Hand Surgery or Burns (desirable)
 • Evidence of experience in plastic surgery, burns, hand surgery, and skin cancer
 • Experience supervising and teaching junior staff
 • Evidence of audit/research and academic contribution
