GP - Private Billing | DPA | MM1 | Central Geelong VIC
- AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
- Australia, Victoria
- Permanent
Boutique. Private billing. Central Geelong. This is a smaller, doctor-owned family practice looking to welcome one or two UK-trained GPs to a team focused on longer, thorough consultations rather than high-volume throughput — with strong patient demand for women's health services and dedicated procedural opportunities. For UK GPs wanting relationship-based medicine, sensible weekday-only hours, and the earnings profile that private billing supports, this role sits differently from most Australian GP options.
Location & registration status
- Suburb: Central Geelong, VIC
- DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
- MMM classification: MM1
Geelong is Victoria's second-largest city, sitting on the shores of Corio Bay around an hour south-west of central Melbourne — direct rail and motorway access into Melbourne, but with a distinct city character of its own. It's genuinely one of Australia's more underrated coastal relocation destinations: world-class beaches on the Bellarine Peninsula, the Great Ocean Road on your doorstep, excellent schools, a growing food and arts scene, and property prices substantially lower than Melbourne. Melbourne is close enough for city weekends without the daily cost of living there, and the surf coast, Grampians, and wine country are all within comfortable reach. The practice itself sits on Park Street in the heart of central Geelong, walkable to the waterfront, cafés, and city amenities.
About the practice
This is a boutique, doctor-owned family practice that has been serving central Geelong since 2009 and was recently acquired by its current husband-and-wife directors. The philosophy is deliberately away from high-volume corporate medicine: personalised care, holistic approach, longer consultation times, and a compassionate patient experience.
The practice currently operates with 2–3 GPs per day (target capacity 4–5) and 1–2 nurses per day, with clinic hours Monday to Friday 8:30am–5:30pm — no weekend obligation, no on-call, no urgent care rostering. After-hours patient care is covered by the National Home Doctor Service and local priority care clinics.
Clinical scope is broad: women's health, men's health, paediatric health, chronic disease management, mental health, travel medicine and immunisations, and minor procedures. Patient demand for women's health services is strong and growing, which is the primary driver of the current recruitment. The practice would particularly welcome GPs with expertise and procedural skills in this area — these are genuinely valued clinically and commercially. Sub-specialty interest in women's health or obstetrics and gynaecology is a strong bonus.
Package & earnings
- 65/35 billing split in your favour (35% service fee)
- 3-month income guarantee during initial patient establishment (hourly rate to be confirmed per candidate)
- Relocation allowance to be confirmed per candidate
- Private billing model supports strong per-consult earnings — bulk billing applies only for patients under 2
- Longer consultations (15 min standard, 30 min for new patients) support thorough medicine and stronger per-patient revenue
- Full-time or part-time considered
Billing model
Predominantly private billing — bulk billing applied only for patients under 2. The private billing model supports longer, more thorough consultations and stronger per-consult earnings than bulk-billing alternatives.
Visa & AHPRA support
Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials) and visa sponsorship, with a clear pathway to permanent residency. On-site supervision capacity is confirmed for ESP candidates. This would be the practice's first ESP-route placement, so our team will handle the heavy lifting on AHPRA paperwork, ESP timelines, visa, and ECFMG/EPIC verification, working alongside a practice that has the clinical infrastructure to support the supervision side.
Who we're looking for
- UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
- Strong communication skills and confident patient rapport — the practice's boutique, relationship-driven model places a high value on patient experience
- Interest in women's health particularly welcomed — this is the primary driver of the current recruitment
- Sub-specialty interest in obstetrics and gynaecology a bonus
- Comfortable in a smaller, independently-run practice rather than a corporate group
- Open to relocating to Victoria and embracing coastal Geelong lifestyle
Next steps
Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, ESP timelines, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.
Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly.
