GP - Mixed Billing | DPA | MM5 | Clare Valley SA
- AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
- Australia, South Australia
- Permanent
A long-established rural practice in South Australia's Clare Valley wine region is looking to welcome a UK-trained GP to its team. With over 100 years of continuous service to the community, 15 GPs across a main site and two outreach clinics, and a meaningful procedural and anaesthetic scope alongside standard GP work, this is one of the more clinically rich rural GP roles currently available in Australia.
Location & registration status
- Suburb: Clare Valley SA
- DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
- MMM classification: MM5
The location sits in South Australia's Clare Valley, one of the state's iconic wine regions, around 2 hours north of Adelaide. The area is a genuine rural idyll — rolling hills, vineyards, a settled country town with good schools and real community feel, and easy weekend access to Adelaide, the Flinders Ranges, and the Yorke Peninsula beaches. Housing is dramatically more affordable than Adelaide, let alone the eastern capitals, and the lifestyle suits GPs who want quiet, outdoors living alongside a clinically substantial role.
About the practice
The practice has served the Clare region for over a century, with 15 GPs across the main site and the two other outreach clinics. The main clinic is a genuine community anchor, supported by seven practice nurses, over 20 administrative staff, and a meaningful allied health and specialist presence. It's also a training practice for medical students and registrars.
Clinical scope is unusually broad for a rural GP posting. Beyond standard general practice, the clinic provides anaesthetics and after-care services for visiting specialist surgeons across ENT, general surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, plastics, and urology — so GPs with procedural interest or anaesthetic background have real scope to use those skills. The practice also offers obstetrics, women's health, family and geriatric medicine, surgery and minor procedures.
The clinic works closely with Clare Hospital, and GPs with UK A&E experience are particularly welcomed — there's steady ED work available alongside clinic sessions for doctors who want to maintain acute skills. ED shifts attract a different (lower) service fee, so candidates combining GP and ED work see stronger overall returns.
Package & earnings
- Service fee of 40% for GPs based in Clare, reducing to 25% for ED shifts at Clare Hospital
- Earnings expected to be higher than average rural GP packages due to procedural scope and ED access (specific figures available on request)
- AUD $10,000 relocation allowance via SA Health
- Potential 6 months' accommodation provided free of charge (to be confirmed per candidate)
- 6 months of supervision available for ESP candidates — the practice has three accredited supervisors on-site
- Full-time or part-time considered — most current GPs are part-time or visiting
Billing model
Mixed billing — a blend of private fees and bulk billing across the patient base.
Visa & AHPRA support
Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration, with on-site supervision capacity for Expedited Specialist Pathway (ESP) candidates — three accredited supervisors are available at the Clare site. Visa sponsorship via 482, with a clear pathway to permanent residency. Our team will handle the heavy lifting on AHPRA paperwork, timelines, and ECFMG/EPIC verification where needed. Note that this would be the practice's first ESP placement — we'll be working closely with the practice to ensure supervision documentation and structure are in place.
Who we're looking for
- UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
- Particularly strong fit for GPs with anaesthetic, A&E, procedural, or obstetric experience — there's genuine scope to use these skills alongside standard GP work
- Comfortable with rural Australian practice and the community lifestyle that goes with it
- Suited to ESP candidates wanting on-site supervision, or fellowed GPs wanting broader clinical scope
- Open to long-term community-focused rural practice
Next steps
Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.
Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly.
