GP - Mixed Billing | DPA | MM2 | Cairns Region QLD

GP-06
  • AUD $250,000 – $500,000 per year
  • Australia, Queensland
  • Permanent

A community-focused mixed-billing practice in the Cairns region is looking to welcome a UK-trained GP to the team. This is a role for a GP who wants to practise genuine primary care — varied case mix, multidisciplinary support on-site, and a patient base that relies on you for continuity rather than drop-in transactions.

Location & registration status

  • Suburb: QLD (Cairns region)
  • DPA status: DPA-approved (Medicare provider number available from day one)
  • MMM classification: MM2

This location sits about 15km south of central Cairns in tropical Far North Queensland — a short drive to Cairns CBD, the Great Barrier Reef coast, and the Atherton Tablelands. The area offers year-round warm weather, genuine outdoor living (reef, rainforest, and national parks all within reach), and property that's substantially more affordable than most coastal Australian cities. Cairns itself has an international airport, good schools, and the full set of amenities you'd expect of a regional city, without the cost or congestion of the capitals.

About the practice

The practice is part of a well-established multidisciplinary group with a strong emphasis on accessibility, affordability, and community-focused care, particularly for underserved populations. On-site services include pathology and allied health, with access to physiotherapy, mental health services, diabetes education, occupational therapy, and audiology. There's a nearby pharmacy and full wheelchair access, and the clinic operates Monday to Friday (8am–6pm) with weekend and public holiday cover (9am–3pm). The role includes an urgent care component alongside standard GP consulting.

Package & earnings

  • Competitive billing split (negotiable for the right candidate)
  • Mixed billing model with bulk billing available for eligible patients
  • Hourly guarantee available during your settling-in period
  • Full-time or part-time considered

Billing model

Mixed billing — private fees for working-age adults, with bulk billing available for eligible patients (concession card holders, children, DVA).

Visa & AHPRA support

Full end-to-end support through AHPRA registration (Specialist or Expedited Specialist Pathway depending on your credentials) and visa sponsorship — typically the Skills in Demand visa, with a clear PR pathway. Our team has guided many UK GPs through this exact transition and will handle the heavy lifting on paperwork, timelines, and ECFMG/EPIC verification where needed. Please note: this position becomes available once visa approval is in place, so timelines will be planned around that.

Who we're looking for

  • UK-trained GP with MRCGP (or working toward CCT — we can advise on timing)
  • Interest in community-focused care and underserved populations
  • Comfortable with an urgent care component alongside routine GP work
  • Open to tropical Far North Queensland living

Next steps

Send your CV to aus@bdiresourcing.com or get in touch to schedule a call with our team — we'll talk through the role, the AHPRA pathway, visa options, and what life actually looks like once you're here.

Even if you're still a year or two away from relocating, it's worth an early conversation — the AHPRA and visa process takes time to do properly.
